Getting Cut Off Handled Like A Gentleman

On a different note, I wonder if arrogance on the road is a bad thing.

VFR may have trolled himself on this thread, but going fast was not a real issue in this case.

Thinking that drivers do not have the right to merge just because you going fast? That could be a problem.

I can only go on memory of the vid now, but I remember thinking he wasn't going THAT fast. I think the calls he was riding too fast for conditions may be exaggerated especially when a gopro makes things seem to move faster than they actually were.

The problem IMHO was as you state the fact that he honked at the driver when the driver signaled well in advance and then proceeded to make a safe lane change.

When you split it is not a good idea to assume cars should look for you. IN fact it is ridiculous. That is on you to look for. As I already said the rider should be glad the driver signaled not miffed he wasn't looking for motorcycles that far behind him.

Close call?

This is a result of a close call.

(so close my bike now rides permanently upside down)

:facepalm

dude, welcome to yesterday. Do you do that in court too ? you know, walk in 1 hr after the session starts and yell "HERE COME DA JUDGE ! "

:twofinger

Dat's right, you hippies call me the hangin' judge.

OP: You want to see what getting "cut off" looks like?

I didn't exactly handle it like a gentleman, but the guy damn near took me out. I already got shit for revving my engine in another thread, if anyone else feels like giving their opinion on the matter, go right ahead. :dunno

OP: If you're going to be splitting lanes during commute times on a regular basis, you have to expect things like this to happen all the time. Practice your panic braking and learn to scan ahead for potential hazards. Learn to look for indications that someone might be merging in front of you:
  • Blinker (DUH)
  • One lane moving faster than another (I try and avoid sharing lanes when this happens)
  • Open gap in one lane means someone from another lane might be looking to fill that gap
  • Car weaving in their lane might indicate they're not paying attention to the road
  • Someone looking into the side mirror or turning their head. Just because they're turning their head or looking in the mirror doesn't automatically mean they see you, approach with caution.
  • Prius

The sound your bike is making should tell you that you are a squid. :two finger

Out of curiosity, why are you not in the far left lane splitting?

I'm going to ignore the first comment :twofinger

I just got off the Bay Bridge, I normally stay on the left lanes of most highways, but I consider the Bay Bridge a free for all. I split between the lanes that give me the most room at any given time. Often times, there are buses and trucks spread throughout the lanes on the Bay Bridge, so the left lane is not always ideal. Additionally, at the time of the video, I was approaching the Fifth Street exit on the left side, where a lot of cagers typically like to make last minute merges because they're trying to avoid the traffic and are hopping back in last minute.

i know that clunk and whine anywhere. love them blackbirds

lol dood, this shit happens all the time when you lanesplit, i dunno but i do see a signal, i do see your splitting at night with above normal speed vs traffic

this shit happens daily for those who commute on a bike, they just brush it off and move on, if you want to see some real close calls, i got them, for example a full on truck towing a boat in my lane coming at you in a blind turn

or lil piggies that when you slow the vid frame by frame is literally like 6inch-1ft from my wheel
