Glove suggestions

i have a pair of these shorties and they are awesome:

Check em out at RoadRiders in San Jose, that's where i got mine.

Actually anything RACER that fits is awesome. I have the "multitops" as well... but now adays, since i went semi-custom with Helimot gloves, that's all i wear.

I love dainese gear but i'm not a fan of their gloves. i ahve a pair of D gloves at home that's collecting dust.

I second the Racer glovers.. I have had several pairs.. They have been used and abused and NEVER split a seam. I also like that the pinky is stitched to the finger next to it:)

No glove, no love:)

I despise that because I brake and clutch with my two middle fingers. And I can't scratch my behind worth a damn.

Will one of the Helimot, Helimot, Helimot people PAleeze tell me two things:
A. Which Helimot, Helimot, Helimot gloves are you talking about.
B. Which Helimot, Helimot, Helimot glove has any ventilation.

Thanks, very Hel-i-mot.

you can 'unstitch' them apart, but why would one bother when they have HELIIIIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT :thumbup

one could only assume u can grab a pair of existing helimots and ask him to trim it down to a shorty?

as forrrrrr

A) helimot has several models, but: there are two nice gloves- Buffalo pros (deer skin) or the B11's (kangaroo). On my buffalo pros, i've asked them to not stitch any reflectors or visor wiper on my glove.

b) helimot has a version of the B11's (f108?) that uses a abrasive resistant material on the backhand side that is very breathable and kangaroo leather on the other. only good for warmer weathers like summer. too cold otherwise. I have a pair and rode in 105 degree temps down to LA. YES they are breathable, but they became like Air Conditioning for the hands when i drenched em in water and rode in em.

I have Arlen Ness A-Spec gloves. They have good feel and fit well. You can try them on at the Arlen Ness store in Dublin but they're over $20 cheaper online. Most of this winter I've been using Tourmaster Winter Elite II gloves. They're waterproof (zip out cover) and warm. The downside is the zip out cover is coming apart at a seem. I'll be at the SF meet tomorrow night if you want to check them out.

1. Helimot
2. Held
3. Everything else

I personally bought Helds. Love them. Also bought a pair of Cortech Adrenaline gloves and they are fine too.

OP, you could have stopped reading after this post.

Oh, and never, ever, ever, ever buy Held gloves mail order. They're nice gloves but their sizing is so random that you really need to try on the actual pair you buy. Two pairs of the same model in the same size will fit differently.

I'm in total agreement.

I've had Held Gloves (the Akira model) from just about the time I started riding (12+ years) and I've crashed at speed a few times. No seam rips. The stitching is a "flat-seam" so there's no lumps bugging you inside the glove

Gauntlet:
I understand the discomfort thing with gauntlet gloves. That being said, the Held gloves that I have do not bug me at ALL. I've had/tried on other ones where the gauntlet interfered with wrist rotation, but not these. Plus, like wearing a helmet for the first week that you start riding, you get used to it real quick. Soon, you won't even know they're there. A good gauntlet should save you from some major wrist damage, should you go down wrist-first or get your wrist stuck in a pinch-point between your bike and asphalt, a taxi, or perhaps a Sherman tank.

Mail order:
I've ordered 2 pairs from online, but that's after I had my size/model all figured out. I did notice some slight variations between sizes, but not to the point where I couldn't wear them. They eventually stretch out as they break in--yay, kangaroo leather!--and voila! Properly sized gloves.

Once the pair I have wear out, I'll probably go with Helimot, just to give them a shot after all the good stuff I've heard about 'em.

I've got the H20's, which I believe are the predecessor to the B11's. I love the H20s, but when I bought them, he had different palm materials in some. Most were deerskin IIRC, but one was sheep or lamb or something, which is the one I took. Incredibly supple an comfortable. Love them, but they do seem to be wearing a little quicker than prior gloves. I liked Helds, but I think Helimots gloves are a notch above. They do seem a bit bulky at first, but they break in so nice and the bulk just seems to go away (or I got used to it). When I put on my older Held Steve's now, they feel so thin.

hey dan scuderia carries both held and racer. also has rs-taichis which is what i have that fits your description to a t. maybe you should check there first before you go online again and buy something?:twofinger

I've said it before and I'll say it again... You guys need to look into VELOCITY GEAR gloves. Stop following like sheep and get the best gloves available. VG has a standing challenge to do a side by side quality and strength test open to all other glove manufacturers....they still decline to put their money where their mouth is. Excellent fit and finish. Not even a stray thread after 2 years and 1 decent crash. Life time, no questions asked, half price replacement policy ( even if the dog chews them up or I run them over with the lawn mower) go to VELOCITY GEARS site and do some research. Sorry people but Astars and dainese are shit!!! You are paying for a name.
Edit: their exhibition pro model is a short gauntlet. Kind of in between a full gauntlet and shorty glove.

Any glove that has lots of stiching all over the palm and back of the hand/fingers is a pass for me, regardless of how strong the stitching purports to be.

The best way to tell if a glove will hold up is to go to a race event and ask around...racers tend to crash a fair amount and the experienced ones won't wear shitty stuff, if they can afford it.

How about you just don't crash

How about you just don't crash
That has always been my plan, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way.

The last crash I had, in 2003, I was wearing gloves from Olympia. The one on my right hand had several seam failures, although I didn't have a scratch on that hand. The left hand suffered a broken bone and a dislocated thumb, but showed no damage at all. I've worn better gloves ever since, even though it is ALWAYS my intention to not crash.

Otherwise, why bother wearing a helmet and the rest of the gear?

Well, you could have just said "how about you don't go on a BARF ride". No shit, I get it...but every once in awhile you miss your brake marker on Redwood road or have a cold tire on your group ride. Or better yet, sometimes you just don't know a road and want to ride fast...that's why you need good gloves!

Besides, they're a write off.

i have some short revit airvolution gloves that are really nice-berto that's your old k5 in my avatar

Dan, pleaseeee come see us! :(

I have some Held Steves with kangaroo palms and fingers. They've lasted through 5 years of all-weather commuting, a trip across the US and back again in the heat of summer, and a trip to the tippy top of Alaska and back in near-constant drenching rain. Several parking-lot drops and a couple low-speed lowsides on dirt in there too.

Bet they could do it again before wearing out.
