GoPro HD Hero2

Here's a pretty wicked vid and a perfect example of a gyroscopic onboard cam. I think it was posted here a month or two back:

I like the sound of "faster image processing". One of the problems i have with the gopro is the lag between high and low light situations. Riding through scattered light, etc.

Does anyone know if there is a video hosting site that supports above 30fps? I've heard some people claim that Vimeo does, but i have yet to find proof. I think it would be great to take advantage of the new fps options but if you can only upload at 30fps its kinda useless imo.

I have primarily used r3 (720p 59.94fps) for my race videos. I output at the same and have uploaded all to Vimeo without issue.

Here is one I did with several different editing methods but all with r3 on the GoPro HD.

I also uploaded this video to YouTube successfully, so if there is a fps change, they are doing it on their side and it's working.

Are you sure the uploaded video is actually at 60fps? I'm no expert but it looks like 30fps to me.

A lot of people seem to be uploading at 60fps but Vimeo just converts it down to 30.

sorry I edited my last post. Yes I am sure that I am uploading at 59.94fps. If they are making changes to 30fps, then it is occurring on their side. I also uploaded the exact same video on YouTube.

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro from the Master Collection 5.5 bundle so I can see source and output settings. However, honestly I haven't downloaded my video from either Vimeo or YouTube to see what it is actually playing back at. Maybe if I have time this weekend, I will do a little experiment.

In regards to 60fps... my question is why the concern?

When you upload the footage the viewable output is 30fps. This is because the NTSC standard is 30fps. This is what the US video industry has determined to be the best of both worlds... FWIW when you watch american TV... it is broadcast to you at 30 fps. When watching EU tv, the broadcast is in 24fps (PAL standard)

So back to my question... why the concern?

Just because you film in 60fps doesn't mean the footage is automatically slow motioned. Slow Motion is a post production effect. You effectively are converting the 60 fps back down to 30 fps doubling your timeline. So 1 filmed second becomes 2 broadcast seconds given you an effective slow down of 50%.

It just looks like it's 30 because he's riding a 250

honestly though... those that have bought an HD2 please let me know your thoughts...

I have only ever used them in a QA test environment (aka BORING)

I'm taking it to carnegie on saturday and the Merrell Sacramento Mud Run on Sunday. Plenty of good GoPro opportunities:)
