GoPro Hero Wide camera test

A few still shots from the camera on my short morning . . .
" Ride To The Other Side ! ! ! "

wtf is that a meteor coming for us in the sun?

I think it's like Mom use to say, "If you look at the sun too long, you'll see spots permantntly." :nerd

We should have listened. :(

The issue I'm having with my recordings, is the audible engine noise. I am using aftermarket Accel Coils and Wires, and I'm thinking that could be the noise, because it's not there when the engine is shut off. I have a set of stock coils and wires I'll swap out, and give them a try. Maybe a radio suppression resistor could be used, like in the old days?

Still McLovin' the camera, and that suction cup mount is working excellent.

Are you using resistor plugs? Try that first.

Thanks for the reply Lonster. I using NGK Iridium DPR9EIX-9's and everything else other then the coils and wires are stock in the ignition system. According to NGK, the "R" stands for Resistor, not Race.

You can hear the noise whether it's set on HI or LO from these two videos:
HI:

LO:

I haven't heard this noise on any of the other Go Pro Camera Links posted, so It's got be from my engine. It can only be heard when the bike is running.

I'll try the other set of coils and wires, and retest,a nd report the results here.

This is camera related matter, so please don't move it to another section please Moderators.

That noise definitely sounds electrical, BUT it doesn't seem to be increasing or decreasing with engine RpM. Something from the coil or wires or plugs would get faster and slower based on engine RpM.
Check that the camera is not wiggling in the case at all. Try covering the sound hole with a small piece of tape, to see if the noise gets quieter.
Weird?

I swapped out a stock set of coils and wires from my track bike, and ran a test again. Noise is still there, and yes, I did check to make sure everything was securred, no loose panels, or license plate rattle.

In the video clips above, is does seem to be related to engine rpm. Listen again to the beginning of the second one.

Well I removed the camera from the case, and held it in my hand. Started the recording, and all was quiet. As soon as the engine ran, the noise started. I moved away from the running bike, and the noise reduced drastically. Bike runs great, and I ride it daily to work, and anywhere else I can. Willing to try some type of ignition noise supressor. Any suggestions? The bike uses electronic ignition, no points.

Thanks for any and all replies, and suggestions.

Well I tested the camera near another running bike, different make and model than my GPz550, and it does the same thing as it does near mine. Noise is there, but I get about 30 feet from the SV650 and the buzzing fades away, to only the exhaust can be heard. Looks like I'll be returning this one for a replacement. My wife has the reciepts.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sounds like you are on the right track.
I bought 8 with friends, on that last group buy, and none of them has any sound issues.

Thanks. I did spend some time on movie maker and synching music with cam angle changes. I shot the video on hwy 9 and 35 more than 2 weeks ago and finally got some time to edit it.

Wet weather from helmet cam looks cool in your video. :thumbup

For all that are using this camera, and know about it. I have the Go Pro Wide, and am using the 2GB 133xSD Memory Card that came with the package. Any recommendations on a bigger card, or should I just buy a few more of these off ebay @ about $9.00 each? I plan on taking it to Canada in June for some VRRA Vintage Racing Footage, and don't want to run out of memory.

Batteries:
I'm looking to invest in some Monster Cable Rechargeable AAA Batteries, as I've had excellent useage out of my Monster Cable AA Rechargeables I use on my basic Digital Camera.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry to thread pirate, but I posted this to maybe help others in their search for more stuff for their Go Pro. :teeth

For all that are using this camera...

For what it's worth, this is my stance:

For the type of editing that I do (or perhaps how I just do things overall), I have never needed a whole lotta memory for footage. Because I don't care much for long and drawn out single-shot footage, I set up my shots ahead of time and shoot only what I plan on using. With that said, a 2G SD card is more than enough for me to compile either a 5 minute reel, or 40 minute reel if I wanted to.

If your type of shooting is different where you know you'll need more storage, go ahead and pick up more memory. They're cheap anyway. :thumbup

For the batteries, I've only used the Energizer Lithium AAA's with this camera, so I can't talk about anything else. All I know is they let the camera operate just fine whether there was a lot of vibration on a motorcycle, or cold temperatures when I was snowboarding. Matter of fact, I STILL have the first set of AAA's in the camera when I used it for the first time as of right now. They may be no good by the next time I turn on the camera (who knows), but I have no problem using nothing but these batteries.

Nobody makes a rechargeable AAA Lithium battey. YET!
I have a connection at a battery manufacturer that is currently Beta testing their Li-on rechargeable. As soon as they pass the test, I will see what we can do for a group buy, but this may be months in the future, so don't hold your breath.

And yes, get a bunch of standard 2 GB cards, and go to town (or on vacation. Which ever you prefer)

I've been running through AAA lithums like mad, but only becuse I leave the camra on acidenaly. But yeah it works great through the vibration and all. Can't wait to see your videos.
