Having problems with local dealership......

Yep.. read the whole thing. and I still can't figure out why it sprung a leak. I'd imagine there's a water/oil cooler gizmo on the front half of the engine integrated with the oil filter housing that's leaking. But who knows..

If I were you I'd calm down and think about this logically. That would include my getting a manual by whatever means necessary and figuring out what needs to be done and what parts are involved and what they cost. Then decide if you can do it yourself. If you cannot, then figure out who can.

That's all there is to it. Leave your emotion and entitlement out of this.

If you decide that you cannot do it. Leave it there or bring it somewhere else.

If you decide to leave it there. Be nice. That's how you do it, that's how it used to be done. Either way, you can't do it yourself so you might as well make nice nice with whomever is doing it.

I can't blame you for being upset but... I know when I get upset in these situations and I've been on both sides of the fence. It's my ego getting in the way of good logic. Get it fixed? bottom line? How? Answer the 'how'. There is no emotion needed or necessary, you're just wasting energy.

LOL dude i have not yelled or anything at them at all, i been putting my rants in here i been totally calm and professional with them
even when they told me 3 times there going to get on it i just calmly say "ok"

AND LIKE I SAID im a lube guy at a GM dealership, i KNOW not to go in there yelling and shouting, it makes things worse, it makes the tech really not want to work on your stuff, thats why I BEEN HOLDING off on just going straight to the owner and giving him my rants, THEY know i work at a dealership, thats part of the reason i brought my bike there is because i know that dealers do good work, if you read my other post i said I UNDERSTAND about messing up and mis-diagnosing it happens everyday, like i said i only been pissed on there procedures ON comebacks/revisits

ive had some minor stuff come back on me, and ive seen stuff come back on the smartest guys in our shop, BUT THE DIFFERENCE? is we get right BACK on our comebacks and revisits

I KNOW HOW ROUGH BEING a tech/lube tech is, i see it everyday, every customer thinks WERE CROOKS, some customers thinks they know about cars and comes in the shop and tells us what to do, techs do alot of work (welding, electrical, diagnosing) and get paid next to NOTHING, so like i said when he told me he mis-diaged my bike the first time, i told him "its ok i know shit happens" other ppl that dont know how it is working in a shop would of probably just Split there wig and started yelling
i dont go in there telling them how to work on my bike, becuase i brought it there because i dont know much about the r1

so please man dont think im going in there yelling and shouting at them because i know how customers that go in there yelling get NOTHING DONE AT ALL, i brought it in there first time because i have a extended warranty on the bike, but it didnt cover the seal, since it was at the shop and i didnt really want to tear apart my new bike i told them to go ahead and do it

like said im only mad at there comeback/revisit procedure

Wut? The parts aren't under warranty from when they worked on it before?

naw the original seals he put in were bad he showed me them when i first picked it up, there not charging me for the re-diag or the installing of new parts.

The seals he replaced the first time were brittle and one was torn

im fine with paying for parts, im not gonna make a big deal and say "you should pay for the parts" because either way i woulda needed the parts, even the first time around.
just that if they did check everything the first time i wouldnt be here.

They gave me 20 percent off on the parts, and took a hit on the labor

thats how we operate as well,

if we mis diag a car, and it comes back for same issues, theres no cost for re-diag and no cost for install, but the customer almost always has to pay for the part and its always discounted

I am a tech at a volvo dealership. Here's the deal, if I'm inside a motor to fix one thing, and find other questionable parts. If I don't relay this to a service advisor, so they can let the customer know there's others concerns. Not only would it not be the right thing to do (my standards) I will eat that shit when it comes back (flat rate). I fuck up I pay! Customer won't pay anything, unless the other problems were noted and explained to the customer.
Also when a tech has a comeback, that customers car has priority over anything else in the shop. I don't care what season it is If I picked up my bike from a shop where they said it was fixed, only to have the same problem after leaving. The shop would not have my bike for three weeks, and I wouldn't be paying any more money out of my pocket.

lol believe it or not im flat rate as well , yes they make everyone EVERYONE in shop flat rate even lube techs

of course i do more like brakes/minor driveablity/alignments/stupid recalls (and lately gm been having a bunch like replacing damn roofs on corvettes)/ i have my smog license but its expired :( :(, i guess im in the middle of lube/journeyman

so yeah i know all about messing up and DOING THINGS FOR FREE, i spent 2hours finding a rattle on a car today and its warranty so i bet im gonna get paid half hour :( one of the reasons i really dont know if i want to continue with this career warranty is so dumb, techs take it up the a$$ from everyone even from the damn manufacturer! (warranty) i wonder if mach 1 is flate rate?? thats what i wonder about motorcycle dealers i bet there all hourly!

how slows ur shop damian? we been pretty damn busy since after 4th of july! you guys union?

i should of just done this job myself, i thought my extended warranty would cover this job but it didnt the damn contract says NO seals so what a fail BUYING that was, its brand new (to me) and i really didnt want to mess it up, but i probably should of just done it myself but oh well live and learn

and like said i bought this bike END OF MAY, i rode it one week before seeing leak, when i got bike back after first repair, i had it FOR ANOTHER WEEK till i saw the leak was still there and its been there since

so the shop has owned my bike more than i have , in fact im gonna tell them that lol

sigh i really should of stuck with honda when i moved up to a liter, my 600rr i put 17,000 plus miles on it (had it since 0 miles) and that thing had zero leaks, this 2005 r1 with 5,000 miles has the most dumbest water pump/oil pump system ever, why oh why do you put the water pump in the oil pan????????????? what other bikes do that *facepalm*, then the CAT CONVERTER is right next to the rear shock, why would you put such high heat right next to the rear shock

:rofl
Mebbe uz shoulda tryna Suzuki. :laughing :p

Your problem is that you bought a 5 year old bike with 5000 miles. That's 1000 miles a year, that means it doesn't even get an oil change but every 4 years. Letting a bike sit is the worst kind of abuse you can do to it. Seals dry up, electronics corrode, etc... I got lucky, I bought mine last year with 3600 miles on it. I'm coming up on 30k miles. I've only had to replace a clutch, a chain, a headlight, and a whole lot of tires.

If you remain unhappy with the dealership call the tech MilleRacer suggested. Pretty flawless reputation.
My bike goes to Berkeley Performance or Elskipador (sp) here on the BARF

What's most aggravating for a flat rate tech is an unresponsive service writer, one who is afraid to call the customer and relay "bad" news. Comebacks don't make anyone happy I really hope they get it right.

take a look at the TL1000. Same issues.

No reason not to use him imho.

This is not always true. One of my old bikes only had 6k in 5 years but I would change the oil out before the summer and before storing it after the summer. I used regular oil with that bike so costs were pretty low. Buying a used bike from the dealer though makes knowing impossible.

NOPE my buddy bought a 05 gsxr with 5,000 miles (probably less since it has aftermarket sprockets) from the same dealer i bought mine

AND HIS HAS 0 LEAKS

I know I've already said a few things in here, but I want to point out that again $500 isn't all THAT much. I just recently paid $2500 to have my GS550 completely regasketed and I had most of the parts. I understand your frustrated... I get it. Really. But $500 isn't much. Hell, I just paid the exact same shop you're complaining about $590 for 2 new tires (mounted and balanced and on the bike) and get the front rim on my FZ straightened (big rocks at 90mph are a bitch!).

So like Iron said, you'll have to just wait a little. I feel your frustration but it is the height of the busy season for all shops and as BARF has pointed out repeatedly there are less shops now because they all closed down.

If you're really that unhappy and don't feel like you're getting taken care of, like I said... ask for Jeff or simply go in. If you don't get what you're looking for ask for your money back and take the bike somewhere else.

As I've said before I have nothing but great service and support from Mach1. Complaining repeatedly here isn't really doing you any good as we aren't the people you need to talk to. :teeth

who did your regasket for 2500? was it mach 1?

also 500 is not that much of course compared to you 2500, but were not millionares here and both amounts are alot of money TO ME nowadays

Powersports across town. It was a complete engine regasket. They also replaced the rings and put an electronic ignition in it. I can guarantee that my ol' '78 has never ran as good as it does now. The thing starts up with a tap of the button even cold. mmmmm sexay!

Believe me, I get it. Spending money and not getting the expected results sucks. I'm just sayin' you should be taking it up with the shop's owner instead of talking about it here. I'm just trying to give you sound advice to give you the results you want. :teeth

bike is back , been good for two weeks

couple days ago saw leak from same spot again, called them yesterday and he couldnt believe it, he said he would call me back same day with a plan, its been two days and no call lol which i expected

jeff the service writer said over phone "we probably have to re order seals and get a new water pump, this time it will be no cost, i will call you back today with a plan"

lol wow this place is pretty funny, who knows maybe third times a charm? im use to it already so im not even mad anymore just find this place pretty damn hilarious, i wonder how long my bike will sit there now, because im just going to drop it off tuesday probably take them another 3wks just to even look at it again, at least this place is great for a storage facility!!!
