I'm over Partzilla

For me, Service Honda is typically the cheapest (next to Partzilla). However, I suspect none of these places has anything in stock and the shipping times to the customer happen to coincide with how often they place orders with Honda and the other OEMs. Not sure who the best is in terms of getting shit right away up here in the Bay Area. I would think Rocky Mountain might be fastest as they probably place orders to the OEMs more often than others.

Well, I put together a big online retailer price shopping/features matrix that I may end up posting but it'll be later if so. Cutting to the chase, I just placed a big 40 item order over the phone to Honda of East Toledo - http://www.hondaeasttoledo.net/.

Why? Their website showed by far the cheapest pricing, it wasn't even close - partsoutlaw had all the other online sellers beat, but HET beat them significantly without a problem. Using this as an example: 2003 Yamaha R1, Clutch, part #10 on the fiche, pn:2H7-16325-00-00 steel clutch plates- BikeBandit $11.01, Partzilla/Boats $9.21, Rocky Mountain $11.01, Motosport $11.01, Ron Ayers $8.64, PartsOutlaw $8.02, HET $7.56. There wasn't a part on my list of gaskets, hoses, o-rings, screws, side covers, steering bearings, etc that HET didn't easily beat, they were 40 for 40.

But the kicker was that I was actually ready to pull the trigger with PartsOutlaw. Since they don't list in/out of stock and I wanted to get a feel for lead times, I called the 877 number and got a generic voicemail prompt "the person at this extension cannot come to the phone, leave a message". Wasn't what I wanted to hear, so I hung up without leaving a message and cruised the list of vendors y'all left me here and realized I never tried HET.

Hit the HET website, that clutch plate was the first part I put in the cart - $.50 cheaper per plate - I'll be, do tell... The website doesn't list in/out of stock so I called their 877 number on the website and got right through to the parts dept and actually spoke to Don who took my order. His lead times for Yamaha are the same as the rest of the online vendors at 5ish days to get parts in, then he ships UPS ground from OH. Email notifications along the way as my order ships. No different than the online retailers in that sense. I read him my parts off my spreadsheet of numbers old school-like. My order total in the partsoutlaw.com cart was $340.67 shipped (that BANG promo code is over, no help, $9.99 shipping), HET was out the door for $320.91 and I paid almost $2 more for shipping but still saved over $20 in the end and I feel like I got much better service.

As a side note for Honda people, my son tells me that Chico Honda Motorsports at http://www.chicohonda.com/ matches internet pricing, has uber fast shipping, and has given him great service. He gives them 3 thumbs up

Partzilla order arrived this morning, 1 day ahead of the already very late shipping window. I got an email notification from PZ that my shipping refund was put through my bank yesterday, but as with all things PZ my bank account transaction history says differently.

That's my story, sticking to it.

well, an update on Honda East Toledo, but the TL;DR is a solid thumb sideways with a few degrees of deflection down.

Ordered on 1/27
Got confirmation email on 2/9 which is 13 days later from the initial phone order fro parts that were supposed to be in within 5-7 biz days
Your invoice <invoice> has been completely received and is now ready to pick-up or will be shipping out shortly.

If your order is being shipped you should receive a tracking number within 1 business day.

Today, 2/17, with no email confirmation in hand and no parts in hand either, I pick up the blower and make the "umm, hello?" call

The parts guy, not-Dan, who answered puts me on hold when I explain why I'm calling so that he can figure things out. Comes back on and says that the parts have not gone out yet, that they were still waiting for a few things to come in and that it should ship today.

me: huh. email I got on 2/9 said everything was in stock and that I was just awaiting a tracking number by email
him: looks like some parts got lost in shipping, but they just came in this morning.
me: <pause> huh. ok. so how is it going to be shipped, what class of service?
him: sec. <hold> uh, we'll put some speed into it and get it to you quickly.
me: ok, I'll wait for the confirmation email then that I should see later today
each: kthxbye

I leave you to draw your own conclusions

Ordered tires from RMATVMC on Monday 2/15 with 5+ on hand, out for delivery 2/17.

OEM parts are unpredictable time wise. Especially for older bikes. I like Rocky MTn new OEM parts catalog. They list what's in stock with them already and what needs to come from manufacturer.

When I had ordered parts from HET for my honda and kawasaki they have shipped it out within a week always. But it's unacceptable for them to send an email saying parts are ready to ship, when they don't have it on hand. I'd be pissed about that one

That's why RM and Motosport are awesome, they have live inventory of what they actually have in their own warehouse, as well as the "ships in 2-5 days" items, so you can actually *know* what day you'll get your stuff. Order before 3pm, or whatever it is, on Monday and as long as it's in stock, 99/100 times you'll get it on Wednesday.

your brick and mortar places like Mach 1 and/or Cycle Gear, as well others, can special order for you and some can even ship to your house....fwiw :teeth

Nobody has parts on hand. It is an obsolete business model.

THIS!

Most of the online resellers sell inventory out of the OEM's warehouses and distribution facilities. The inventory "in stock" information is more often than not what the OEM has. It should really matter who's warehouse it's in as long as it ships promptly.

Negative. That's what the shitty ones do. The good ones let you know what they have in their own warehouse and what they sell from an OEM warehouse.

I respectfully disagree with you sir. This is the business that I am in, 3rd party inventory management and logistics and sourcing. There is no reason dozens of resellers to carry the same items when it comes to OEM components that don't have a high sell through. The good resellers use real-time system integration to give you live inventory from the OEM facilities. They are well integrated with the OEM shipping operations and collaborate with the OEM to provide forecasting of sell through. They also negotiate preferred reseller agreements where thy get access to inventory before other resellers if there is not enough to fill orders.

I don't know of dozens either. Any OEM part you see "in stock" and not "2-5 days" from Rocky Mountain comes from their very own warehouse, either Payson, UT, or Winchester, KY. Anything that's "2-5 days" is drop shipped from wherever.

Service Honda is usually cheaper than
Ron Ayers

Because of OEM rules, items will be shipped from Honda's California warehouse to them, if they don't have it. OEMs will not drop ship in the auto/bike industry as far as I know. You need to protect your dealers, right? Right. And it will still cost less, usually, than buying retail. :dunno

I have a list of about nine favs that I have shopped regularly over da' years. Service Honda and Ron Ayers are two of them.

While is seems futile to argue with Pelon and his apparent inside industry expertise, my experience has been consistent with byke's. When I order an OE part from Rocky Mtn, if it says "In Stock" it's always shipped the same, or next, business day from Payson, Utah.
