Indian Scout FTR1200

Thanks for that and while still interested in the Indian, for the price of the S, at a place that also carries Triumphs i’d Be too tempted to wander over to the Speed Triple rs, just saying.....:cool

exactly - I was there Fri for the FTR only

it’s somewhat a better Buell, no kidding -
similar thrust, very refined, too w-i-d-e & kinda tip-toeish,
very quiet, shitty tach display, nice electronics, good brakes

the crap test route gave zero indication on handling,
which is super-important to me -
while heavier than my M2 Cyclone, Injun has wide bars

the lighter/narrower ‘19 Speed Twin is still my fave,
tho have yet to try R9T or Monster/Hyper/Multi

Got to demoride this bike today. Pretty nice machine. It's got loads of torque and the throttle was nice and smooth any mode it was in. It's wider than it looks and boy does it get hot. It sounds mean when you get on the pipe too :) It had cruise control and a touch screen also. Feels like a bigger scrambler.

The Indian demo truck will be in Hollister the 5th, 6th, and 7th. I hope Friday I can make it to demo the ftr1200

Crikeys I was just doing some research about the FTR and it has a 12.5:1 compression ratio. That's pretty high no wonder it makes so much heat. I'm assuming premium only gasoline.

yeah, plenty o’heat coming off that mill -
no problem except @ rest during our too-short test loop

there’s a good reason that Harley’s best gear includes thermal pads in lower side of right thigh (dunno if Injun pants have same)

My Hyper is 13.1:1 compression ratio. I'm not so sure its excessively hot. I did ride a Monster 1200R and that put out a ton of heat. Think the heat is caused more by displacement than anything else.

My DR650 has a higher compression piston than stock (10.5:1) and I complain of the heat from the pipe after long freeway rides in warm weather. I thought it was strange how people say their DR650s don't do that and I figure it was because of the extra compression. More compression = more heat = MO POWAH!

Also the heat shield on the pipe touches my leg on the FTR. Hopefully after long rides my leg doesn't get BBQ'd =P

At a pub in Wales I stumbled into a group of British bike tourers. Up rolled the sleeves and pant legs to show battle scars from bike use. Plenty of pipe burns, mine included, as proof of use.

Excess heat? Naw, signs of passage they said.

Displacement isn't cause for felt heat.

Thought that was interesting seeing how HD is struggling their competitor is killin it. All Indian needs to do is build an electric bike that costs less than $30k. They should just sell that Victory prototype race bike they raced at Pikes Peak with an Indian badge.

Polaris bought (Brammo?) and came out with the Victory Empulse for about $20,000. Polaris does sell electric vehicles so I'm sure they're working on an electric Indian when the time is right.

Meanwhile it has been leaked that Indian is coming out with a 108 CI water cooled engine. A V-twin that will first be seen on a fixed fairing bagger. I'm sure many more models will be following with the new engine.

Yeah the electric bikes are expensive and I wouldn't have paid $20k for my Empulse I would buy an SR before that. But for $7500 I would which is how much I paid for mine. It's going to be a price war with electric bikes I think. When one of the big four starts cranking out electric bikes that'll be it.

I believe Indian is working on the electric bike they said within 5 years I think. I don't think they should have stopped building the Empulse, it's a great bike and it could have been much better if it evolved.

I would think the pipes would be cooler if they are larger diameter. There would be less backpressure/friction

I rode both bikes within a half hour of each other on the same streets.
Theorize all you like, the 1200's exhaust and engine put out a lot more heat than the Hyper.

Well it could be any number of factors that could make it feel hotter. Like engine tuning for one (richer = cooler), compression, operating temp, ambient temp, catalyst, etc...

Yep MOPOWAH MOHEAT!

I ridden a number of liter bikes they are like sitting on an oven sometimes
