Indian Scout FTR1200

agreed on looks & price - my other, big concerns are wet weight & how it feels thru an S-curve

the Trumpet Speed Twin surprised me in a good way by feeling diminutive at rest & pretty responsive when on Dry Creek Rd during test rides

the BMW shaft drives usedta rise up on the diff when on the throttle & get low when shut off, a cornering characteristic that put me off 20 yrs ago when I ended up purchasing my Buell - do they still do that?

regardless, Spirit sells Turnips + Injuns (+ Enfields) so comparisons are possible,
with SJ BMW right up the street......

I don’t think they do that anymore. I know of some people who track their GSA’s and love it and rail

Not an issue since 1988 when the Paralever went into production. The trade off was a somewhat more delicate, complicated drive-train though.

while I appreciate your authoritative response, my 1st-hand experience in 1999 on BMWz then-sportiest model was an immediate no-go

Kari (R.I.P) @ Cal BMW sent me out solo on a brief, mostly right-hand-turn loop across US-101, out into the grassy flats & high-tech tip-ups, returning on the snaky frontage road that ends up west over US-101 (where the awesome Computer History Museum is now), headed back to the shop

the bike sounded great, ran well, & more closely matched my desired feel than either the VFR or SuperHawk I’d somehow convinced the Honda dealer (mebbe in Svl, can’t remember) to lemme test - tho pricey, the bike was appealing

however, I noticed on a couple of rights that at turn-in, closing the throttle, the bike sank; it also seemed to get higher when I punched it upon exiting - I really wasn’t interested in learning how to overcome these quirks

that nixed it for me - upon arriving back @ his store, I said, “ no thx”, & Kari didn’t try to convince me otherwise; instead, he steered me to a used S2 Buell that was languishing over in the corner, offering, “mebbe you’ll like this”......

One day mine will arrive. I’m not a fan of seeing/hearing about these bikes around the area after I put a deposit down on one over a year ago....

Guess it would be more accurate to say the paralever pretty much solved the shaft-jack of the old bikes, but didn’t change BMWs love of slightly “odd” handling bikes. But maybe it just feels completely gone to me on my paralever R100GS since my Earles fork BMW R60/2 does so many weird things under brake and acceleration. I don’t have much experience on the newer bikes.

My 07 GS is the best handling motorcycle I've ever owned.

...just saying.

Test rode one and I quickly asked for my deposit back. Not a fan of the seat, gas tank and anemic power. Looking forward to the other versions rumored to come out later this year or next year.

Mind you I'm coming from a MV Agusta.

Dayum, well that is interesting-I was gonna ask what the hold up on your bike is exactly? The accessories? It’s very interesting to read of your review though.:thumbup

Yea it’s upsetting cause of the delay and just all around handling of the dealer. I could look past that but the bike isn’t for me. Sad day but I’ll wait for other releases. I think the ftr1200s will do well but it needs a few things changed first.

That’s kind of a surprising outcome. Sorry it wasn’t to your liking. I’m not in the market for a bike, but was secretly hoping this one might be a contender.

Tzrider my thoughts as well, dead on. I actually just now found out at the Dublin dealer, where I live close by, they are not allowing test rides, no demo rides, nada......I’m disappointed as it’s easy to test ride a BMW, Triumph, Ducati, pretty much all non Jap bikes and this Indian is an American bike and they aren’t allowing test rides? I guess the policy is due to the ability to turn off the Traction control, thereby allowing wheelies........anyway I’m with tzrider exactly but I said that already. Good move entopic:

Edit: Harley is out soon with an all new Streetfighter, 17” wheels front and rear, photos look most awesome.

Anemic power does not sound good.

Good call to not buy something that you are not in love with.

This weekend at Spirit motorcycle they will have their whole line up for demo, including the FTR.

Entopic just go get a Superduke, you won't be disappointed.

lol I'm already looking at it however the Mv Agusta Brutale Serie 1000 Oro may be my next bike. With that being said Erin would kill me cause it doesn't have a backseat.
