Thanks- my pickup has a commercial plate and I didn't even know it...
And FWIW, neither of my neighbors' Jeep SUVs have commercial plates.
Huh!
Guess I'm wrong....

Careful with the stereotyping. The Jeep has a commercial plate. Can you say "contractor?" I thought you could.

As far as I am aware, all trucks (I assume that a Jeep Charokee would also fall in this category) get commercial plates. Every truck I have owned in California has been issued a commercial plate without me asking or having to pay extra for one.
Bravo to the Vespa, for taking one for the team.
See, scooters are good for something!

hold up...are you hawt?
(you write pretty good)
!!! Um, not by barf standards (too many trips around the sun...). My bf seems OK with my looks, though...
(You'd write pretty well, too, if your dad was a high school English teacher...)

Um, who's the one that's offended? Nobody said anything about you either. But now I'm gonna.Careful with being offended.. nobody said anything about you.
Oh, okay, take note all you contractors out there. You are no longer allowed to drive whatever you want, you MUST NOW buy a truck.Contractor with a "luxury" jeep like the Grand Cherokee - complete BS. If you're a contractor get a truck.
no commentWas just offering some help to KKTucker here, suggesting that in fact, Jeep Grand Cherokee consume just as many Starbucks as Ducati owners. I guess she didn't like the help, she said I was wrong to say females drive Grand Cherokees. :|
I'm not sure what you're saying here. Is this part of your "contractors must drive a truck" rule? Or are you saying that contractors shouldn't be allowed to earn enough money to buy an X5? Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to have their wife in the car?Lastly, I've seen a commercial plate on a BMW X5 complete with a wife in the passenger seat. Thank you for being a contractor.![]()
Who was defending the driver? Certainly not me. I was merely pointing out that a commercial plate on a non-commercial type vehicle is usually a contractor and not necessarily a latte swirler.Finally.. defending a driver who hits a motorcycle during daylight, while going FORWARD? Please. The driver was that stupid.
On the plus side the plate number actually does belong to a Jeep Grand Cherokee...from Marin.
For those that don't know how to find that out.

The scene:
O'Farrell St. motorcycle parking at Market and Kearny, Thursday 4/29 afternoon sometime between 4:30 and 5:40 pm.
The bike:
My red Ducati Monster, parked on the eastmost end of the legal parking. Also featuring a light blue Vespa.
The plot:
I returned to my bike to find an unsigned note taped to the tank informing me that some JERK in a Jeep Cherokee had knocked over my bike and driven off, plate # 5T74805.
My bike had been picked up(thank you!). Damage would have been much worse except that it landed on a brand new Vespa.
The question:
Who left the note?!! Are there any other witnesses?! Step forward and receive the accolades of everyone on BARF for doing the right thing!

It works WAYYYY better whan a CHP officer is doing the grilling and explaining the possible hit-and-run charges that MIGHT be filed if the driver doesn't take responsibility.... worked in my case.Exactly. All Geico has to say is, "Joe Blow saw you, and took your plate." Asswipe then invariably incriminates self.
I do sort of wonder what sort of arm twisting techniques Geico used
