Jeep knocks over Duc 4/29 in SF, who left the note?

My Durango has a commercial plate and I never asked for it either:rolleyes

It led me to assume that all 4 wheel drive vehicles had to get them:confused

Nope, just pickup trucks are automatic commercial plates. SUVs are considered autos, and therefore get the standard plate.

Dave

I got one (commercial plate) on my old volvo wagon when I bought it. Apparently the owner before had a business and used it for such. It was sweet, I could park in the yellow zones, legally! :thumbup

When I changed the name and ownership at the DMV, they took it away :thumbdown

Careful with the stereotyping. The Jeep has a commercial plate. Can you say "contractor?" I thought you could.

Careful with being offended.. nobody said anything about you.

Contractor with a "luxury" jeep like the Grand Cherokee - complete BS. If you're a contractor get a truck.

Was just offering some help to KKTucker here, suggesting that in fact, Jeep Grand Cherokee consume just as many Starbucks as Ducati owners. I guess she didn't like the help, she said I was wrong to say females drive Grand Cherokees. :|

Lastly, I've seen a commercial plate on a BMW X5 complete with a wife in the passenger seat. Thank you for being a contractor. :rolleyes

Finally.. defending a driver who hits a motorcycle during daylight, while going FORWARD? Please. The driver was that stupid.

As far as I am aware, all trucks (I assume that a Jeep Charokee would also fall in this category) get commercial plates. Every truck I have owned in California has been issued a commercial plate without me asking or having to pay extra for one.

no, not a TRUCK they are classified as a POS. I owned one. spent more time in the shop than in my garage!!

Um, who's the one that's offended? Nobody said anything about you either. But now I'm gonna.

Oh, okay, take note all you contractors out there. You are no longer allowed to drive whatever you want, you MUST NOW buy a truck.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Is this part of your "contractors must drive a truck" rule? Or are you saying that contractors shouldn't be allowed to earn enough money to buy an X5? Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to have their wife in the car?
Finally.. defending a driver who hits a motorcycle during daylight, while going FORWARD? Please. The driver was that stupid.
Who was defending the driver? Certainly not me. I was merely pointing out that a commercial plate on a non-commercial type vehicle is usually a contractor and not necessarily a latte swirler.

Perhaps he/she was a latte-swirling contractor? :twofinger

Hopefully things work out for the OP and the scooterista...
If nothing else, this thread has finally solved the mystery of why we ended up with a commercial tag on our F150... For years I've kidded my wife that she must've checked the wrong box on the DMV forms when we moved back to CA.

Update!

Geico called me today. They wanted to confirm my mailing address because the Jeep driver paid up! :party

I get my deductible back. They're mailing me a check. :thumbup:thumbup

Thank you thank you thank you to the good person who left the original note! (I do sort of wonder what sort of arm twisting techniques Geico used ...)

BTW, the Vespa rider got a whole new scoot ....

The scene:
O'Farrell St. motorcycle parking at Market and Kearny, Thursday 4/29 afternoon sometime between 4:30 and 5:40 pm.

The bike:
My red Ducati Monster, parked on the eastmost end of the legal parking. Also featuring a light blue Vespa.

The plot:
I returned to my bike to find an unsigned note taped to the tank informing me that some JERK in a Jeep Cherokee had knocked over my bike and driven off, plate # 5T74805.

My bike had been picked up :love (thank you!). Damage would have been much worse except that it landed on a brand new Vespa.

The question:
Who left the note?!! Are there any other witnesses?! Step forward and receive the accolades of everyone on BARF for doing the right thing!

It's not the accolades that the mysterious good Samaritan is trying to avoid, it's the subpoenas to depositions and trials he will get that means he has to take time off work to testify without pay.....:wow

Exactly. All Geico has to say is, "Joe Blow saw you, and took your plate." Asswipe then invariably incriminates self.
It works WAYYYY better whan a CHP officer is doing the grilling and explaining the possible hit-and-run charges that MIGHT be filed if the driver doesn't take responsibility.... worked in my case.

I do sort of wonder what sort of arm twisting techniques Geico used

Probably told him there was a witness (which is true) and that if he/she does not admit it, he/she will be charged with a hit and run. :dunno

Edit: I should type faster.

damn...sweet victory to you and the scooterist
