I left her a note explaining what happened, included the Jeep plate #, and my contact info.

She's pretty bummed, the scoot was new, picked up on Sunday. She says she's not going to file with her insurance because she has a $500 deductible.

I'm guessing she's going to change her mind when she finds out how much imported Italian bike parts cost .... :wow :laughing

I actually found it kinda interesting that the barf community assumed that the motorcycle rider was male and the driver of the Jeep female, when in fact it's the opposite.

The rider of the brave-hearted baby blue Vespa is female, too. :teeth

What's really outrageous to me is that the driver drove forwards into my bike. Seriously, what's with that? "Oops! I didn't see that bright red object right in front of me." :wtf
 
the jeep driver is probably of the "I drive a big truck so I don't give a fuck" persuasion.

Could also be he is willing to pay extra for parking in yellow zones, too, w/o being a contractor. One yellow zone ticket in San Francisco is more than the extra fees DMV assesses for the commercial plate.
 
As far as I am aware, all trucks (I assume that a Jeep Charokee would also fall in this category) get commercial plates. Every truck I have owned in California has been issued a commercial plate without me asking or having to pay extra for one.

Open-bed pickup trucks, yeah. Hard to not get commercial plates. If it then has a permanently attached shell, you can get standard plates. Station wagon-style trucks like the Cherokee requires a bit of work with DMV to get commercial plates.

BTW, if you park in a yellow zone in San Francisco with a station wagon that has commercial plates, the rear seat must be folded up or you can get cited.

Number, single letter, five numbers=commercial plate
Number, three letters, three numbers=standard plate
Number, two letters, four numbers=trailer
Seven numbers=Calif. government (exempt)
There are others, too.

Thanks- my pickup has a commercial plate and I didn't even know it...

And FWIW, neither of my neighbors' Jeep SUVs have commercial plates.
