Junction closing?

This is awful. Pam has been so great... when I'd have a group ride planned, I'd call the day before, & she'd have that amazing pulled pork sammich as the special of the day... always friendly, ready to help make a great ride better. She and Steve will be sorely missed!!! :cry

this is sucky news. riding out there to find the gate closed (too early, holiday, etc.) was always a bummer, and now it's going to be closed every day :(
Del Porteo Canyon Road (sic) was gravel back then...
When exactly did Del Puerto get paved all the way through? I remember the Patterson-San Jose run including unpaved portions as late as 1981.

edit: Del Porteo Canyon Road was gravel back then.....it was Mines to Mt. Hamilton only. So The Junction was the only stop mid-way along a ride. :)

Ah, someone else who remembers it was dirt.

I rode up there today and they were closed. All the gates were closed except the entry from Del Puerto. The port-o-potty was still there but I don't know for how long. I hope someone can re-open that place up. I love that place.

*Sigh* I was thinking about going tomorrow. :/

Very sad news indeed :cry

Why did it close? sold? inspection? taxes?

I'd guess lack of traffic. I'm sure the recession has cut back their business. They are in Bumfuque, Eqypt on a good day. In slow times they are off of the map.

I just called and it is true! as of thursday they are closed.:(

what to run it now is your time.....:teeth

Someone on the bicyclists side got a call back this morning from the cafe saying that it was a temporary closure, and it may be open again in a few weeks. . . . Did you talk to someone brprider?
Hopefully this is just a temp thing, it'd be a shame to lose the junction. . . .

If it does reopen, we all need to get our asses out there ASAP and spend money to keep them in business.

That's a damn shame - always stop there and they were friendly folks with great prices on their stuff - plus the helmet stand to make riders feel welcome. :(

If somebody finds out a definite re-open, let's set up a Welcome Back group ride.
