Junction closing?

I talked to Jessie and it's true. Pam and the crew will be missed. Pam always looked out for the cyclist/motorcyclist. She would personally call the county to get the road cleaned.
According to Jessie, the owner is looking for someone to take over the place.
This is awful. Pam has been so great... when I'd have a group ride planned, I'd call the day before, & she'd have that amazing pulled pork sammich as the special of the day... always friendly, ready to help make a great ride better. She and Steve will be sorely missed!!! :cry

Well crap. I was really hoping this wasn't true. We should have a Junction cafe wake or something.

If it does reopen, we all need to get our asses out there ASAP and spend money to keep them in business.
It's a tough gig out there. We can't hope for better people to run it, the current couple couldn't be more m/c friendly. It's not like the next operators need to advertise more, they are kinda at the mercy of the weather (read: if it's nice out, there will be traffic; as opposed to Alice's, where traffic exists even when the weather is gray).

If the next ops charge $1 more for drinks, and $2 more for burgers, because that's what their business sense tells them they need to do to break even, how long will it be before BARFers whine "The Junction is too expensive"?

Best of luck to the next that try.

Junction gossip

Ran into some fellow riders at the *bx in Patterson Saturday before heading down Del Puerto and Mines. They said the Junction folks had lost their lease, that someone new was going to open it in a couple of weeks with new folk.
We'll see. If so they should be open just in time for "High Season" :teeth . The parking lot is closed off. Looks weird w/o peeps.

The fog was thick enough to have to wipe down the visor 5-10 minutes. At 4:00 pm four small deer jumped across the road just in front of me. My BARF training immediately kicked in I started looking for some more. Sure enough, a little squidly deer :squid running parallel to me in the left ditch hopped the road to join the buddies on the right. If that guy does one of those spring, step and then jump (what the hell do I know about deer?) I would be toast before touching any bike controls.:facepalm
Bambi lives, rider lives, both have Oh Shit moments....
:rofl :rofl :rofl

We used to go 4wheelin' at Frank Raines back in '79 and it was gravel then.

I'm guessing it was paved in 80' or thereabouts. Was sure happy when it appeared; brand spankin' new pavement!!! Yeeehaaa!

Rode the dirt from The Junction couple times out to Raines Park until it turned to pavement. Too long of a dirt ride on the old KZ 4-banger....

I'm posting so that I'll be subscribed to this thread.

I'll also miss The Junction. I made it a point to stop there and buy something whenever riding in the area. If they re-open, I'll plan to ride up there the next Saturday to show my support. I've only managed to get up there maybe five times a year at the most. I'm sure that I should visit there more often if they open again.

Looks like there is an interested party working on taking over the Junction. As soon as the paperwork is completed, they will re-open the Junction.

I ran into a couple of Mines Road locals today, and the Junction will be re-opening soon. It's being taken over by an older couple that live further up Mt. Hamilton. They're long-time customers, and the guy I was talking to says they're nice enough people. He doesn't know them really well, but says they know how to cook. Hopefully they do a BBQ pulled pork sammich as good as Pam's.... :drool

Good news. :thumbup

Totally! I can't imagine riding up there in the heat of summer without being able to stop for a cold drink and sit in the shade under the trees... or, better yet, inside with the air conditioning running...

Exactly. It's one of the reasons I liked Mines so much. A cool stop in the middle of the ride; especially on those 100'+ days...

Sign on the gate today said "open soon". Hopefully they'll be back by next weekend.
