Lagunitas Sucks!

Dr. evil,
There are dozens of varieties of hops just like there are dozens of varieties of malted grains. Using these varieties to make your own recipe is one of the best things about brewing. Hell I've been trying to perfect my Rye IPA for a while now.

Different strokes for different folks and all that. But if you think all their beers taste the same (or like gin) you may want to check your taste buds. If you don't like the style, great. But Lagunitas makes some amazing ales, you just may not like them.

Hell I don't like any of Stone's ales. Too bitter for my taste. That doesn't mean they suck or that people that enjoy them are morons. It's a personal preference.

This

I can't drink any of the stuff from Pyramid .. sucks because pyramid is in W.C. and Lagunitas isn't :x

Btw John, there's a difference between "loud and opinionated" and "loud and obnoxious" ;)

and who gets to determine the difference :confused loud and opinionated mods ?? or are they loud and obnoxious, I can't tell the difference

btw, I hate all beer

edit - and while we are at it, why the personal attack by Valgar? What's up with that? John may be loud and opinionated, or obnoxious (depending on your point of view) but no need for a personal attack in a fucking thread about beer :shame

Nice to hear different opinions. Maybe we need a "beers that suck" thread.

IIRC Lagunitas is an extract only operation. Their IPA is pretty good. And yes, everything is overhopped, but there's a big market for West Coast style beer. I can't believe the places I see it.

My cousin's FIL is the manager of the Petaluma place and told me he's headed to Chicago to help open a huge operation this year. They are a force to be reckoned with. In my utopian future the majors implode and craft brewers take over the facilities.

I'm glad to hear someone else say they hate Hefewiezen. That and everything Gorden Biersch makes is unpalatable to me. Soapy. Thin. Weak.

Your opinion is duly noted, thanks.

My father and brother turn out some good stuff, too. They use a variety of hops that is very mild and citrus-y, and it makes their English-style ales mucho delicioso.

My own tastes run toward Belgian ales, wheat beers, and HEAVY scottish ales and stouts. I like a lot of things going on, flavor-wise.

I actually like their Dunkelwiezen and Marchens. Not too big a fan of their lighter stuff, but those two are particularly good.

Because I am sick of people acting like know-it-alls. Plain and simple. Want to call for a vote to suspend me? Fine, go ahead, don't give a rats ass. But when someone that is still wet behind the ears is seemingly constantly telling everyone how things are supposed to be, how they are wrong, etc. Well, I get tired of it.

I call people on bullshit like that IN PERSON, so why shouldn't I do it online?

Especially about beer.

Jesus fucking christ. Beer IS IMPORTANT!

:)

Both Sucks and Lil Sumpin are delicious going down, but catastrophic comin' up. I told my story of the Thanksgiving and Xmas experiences in a previous thread. I was told at the brewery that the addition of cereal grains was the difference. Just dont drink too much of 'em. Sure you could say that of all ales, but those two had the Shanghai effect on me and my boys. I can drink regular IPAs all night long, not those two, especially with pub foods and such. Danger, Will Robinson.

Because Budman says personal attacks are verboten on BARF.

Trust me, if they weren't, you'd all be hearing a lot more from me. A LOT

And beer STILL sucks. :)

Brown Shugga is my favorite Lagunitas brew. But yeah, not everyone likes it, but alot of folks do. Sucks is completely different, you should try it.

Little Sumpin is good, but i like Little sumpin wild alot better.

Whatever though, just about everything Lagunitas brews is good.

I will try the Sucks on your recommendation!

You are brave riding there. I wouldn't want to leave my bike overnight :laughing

We didn't stay long :teeth

... And now it's Sunday, and I am sipping on one of my wife's Longboard Lagers :barf

I love that beer. :Port

It's should grab some. I picked up the dogfish head 90 minute ipa. :staRang

Their Blonde Bock ain't too bad, and every now and again they turn out a decent seasonal. Everything else tends to be bilge.

Thank you to the 7 or so people who didn't turn into self righteous assholes and make this thread about themselves.

Got some good beer recommendations. Will be on the hunt tomorrow.

The close proximity of Russian River Brewery and Lagunitas, then Bear Republic further up the road, makes the Sonoma 101 corridor some kind of ale central. We are very lucky to have these treasures. I think they should get together and create a regional approach to tourism the way the wine growers have to encourage their craft and draw attention to the happy coincidence or confluence. Maybe they already have, I dunno...

Of the three, I think Lagunitas has the most complex and perhaps adventurous brews. Russian Rivers brews, to me, are a bit more pure but delicious. The purity of Pliny the Elder makes a statement in that way. It's a super definitive taste, kinda like going to church for IPA. My favorite there is Blind Pig, which has a bit less bitterness and rounder flavor. And Bear Republic, ah, if you can get Racer X when they are making it there....yum. Otherwise I am always happy with Racer 5.

Hope that wasn't about me, but taste is so subjective....

All 3 places are always hopping, (pun intended).

Tried Racer X over the Holidays and it was :thumbup:thumbup.

They have this seasonal beer right now; I'll have to go up there and try it.

Café Racer 15™
Double IPA
ABV: 8.95% IBU: 100+ Color: Golden
Brewed to celebrate the spirit of the counterculture streetracer motorcyclists and the 15th year of innovative brewing at Bear Republic Brewing Co. Café Racer 15™ is a deep golden Double IPA with a rebellious blast of the resinous, grapefruity aroma of Citra hops and a dry malty finish.
