malaysian airline w/ 239 passengers lose contact w/ air traffic control..

Gov't said that coordinates were imputed to the autopilot within an hour of the flight. Coordinates that headed in the opposite directing of the original flight path.

that's frightening to learn that airlines are using apple gps apps nowadays...

:toothless

I should be more specific BIOT is a British Listening Post, it would have been heard (if you ever get a chance to visit BIOT do it, Jack and Cokes by the pitcher for $2.50, pitcher of beer for $1, and then there is the brit bar where we played hammerschlagen, I don't think I've ever been drunker)

But if they crashed off the west coast of Malaysia/Thailand they would be in the Andaman Sea.

judge all you want but I saw Evanescence there back in 04ish, private concert for maybe 60 people tops, the aircraft carrier that was supposed to arrive was delayed.

Was this method of detection used for the plane that crashed off Brazil a few yrs ago? If so, I don't recall hearing about it.

Air France 447? I don't know and I don't think so, it's likely you will never hear about these locations as they aren't spoken of very often. I was a pac sailor so I am more aware of what was around in the pacific. Someone here mentioned the engine data identifying it's crash location.

But to think the US is the only country to deploy a SOSUS is a bit short sighted.

Good book out there called Blind Mans Bluff - it's what got me interested in joining the submarine force and opened my eyes to what it is they did. Crazy how much truth is printed in the book

Assuming it flew anywhere near China, of course. Could have just turned and headed south after being over Vietnam.

Pretty sure China's radar air coverage will include well over Vietnam. Ours IIRC can still pick up incoming halfway into Mexico and Canada.

Finding a cruise missile or incoming aircraft at only the 100 mile limit would be pretty useless.

I apologize in advance for this tasteless image. Could. Not. Resist.

From Bloomberg Visual Data:
Some 83 aircraft have been declared “missing” since 1948, according to data compiled by the Aviation Safety Network. The list includes planes capable of carrying more than 14 passengers and where no trace — bodies or debris — has ever been found.

why i don't believe the plane was hijacked: if anyone on teh barf ever caught the 30 stockton or 3 bryant bus in sf, they'd know in a few days, the hijackers/terrorists would be the ones calling for help ....

Missing Jet's U-Turn Programmed Before Signoff, Sources Say

The missing Malaysia Airlines jet's abrupt U-turn was programmed into the on-board computer well before the co-pilot calmly signed off with air traffic controllers, sources tell NBC News.

The change in direction was made at least 12 minutes before co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid said "All right, good night," to controllers on the ground, the sources said.

:laughing

Totally a James Bond movie in the making. Plane gets hijacked, taken to the Middle East. Then, fitted with said emp. Then, flies and deploys over Europe or the USA.

However, I wonder how quick we could pick it up entering US airspace...? NYC and dc are awfully close to international air...

I keep watching the news hoping for some new revelation.......only what two weeks until the black box ceases to function?
