Mass shooting at San Jose VTA

Channel 7 quoted the shooter's gf saying that he was stressed out about the amount of work he was given and that he said that his boss mistreated him.

Everybody has "that guy" at work.

I worked with the most sour looking dude ever. Wouldn’t say hello to anyone, always a scowl on his face. I’d often mentioned to people that he was a mass shooter waiting to happen. His cubicle was next to my office and he’d never say a word to me, I knew I’d be on his list.
Fortunately over a decade since I last saw him.

Sounds like "that guy" alright.

So get 'em before he gets you?

BTY, I guess I didn't know who was "that guy" at any of my jobs.

I guess my situation doesn't apply to everybody but I'm "the guy" that has to escort "that guy" out the door when his employment is no longer desired. So my exposure and knowledge of "those guys" are probably much much higher than everybody else's. 99% of those guys are probably harmless, but there's been a few over the years who I "KNEW" (and HR knew, that's why I got called) were gonna come back and shoot us up. Thankfully my worst fears have not been realized in 20 years of working here.

Channel 7 quoted the shooter's gf saying that he was stressed out about the amount of work he was given and that he said that his boss mistreated him.

She also said he had some mental issues, "he's very up and down."

It's a tragedy all around.

This likely describes all workplace shooters everywhere, ever.

A mutual tiki/drinking friend of Kelly and I was there too...and was shot. He's still in the hospital but his condition has been upgraded to stable from what I'm gathering through the friend checking in on him and his wife.

This whole thing just sucks. I'm so fucking tired of people taking their aggressions out on everyone else but just themself. Makes me wonder about some of my guys lately too as we've been pushing the crews to 12 hour days regularly to keep up with the workload and the lack of employees. I'm not at the point that I think I need to bring a vest to work, but sometimes...I just don't know anymore...

:rip Mikey

Sorry for the loss Matt.

His family is so much in shock I am sure. Hope some support from friends like you helps.

As you said.. hit close to home. Really sad day for a lot of people.

Matt, so sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with all that loved and cared for Mikey.

Can I make a mod request to change this to a RIP thread, I would not like people to step on toes here discussing anything but caring thoughts. No after action reports, no politics, etc

I recommend peeps start another thread for that if they wish to discuss such things

Appreciate that B

I know far more then I can say right now. I’d encourage it just stay the course as is for a few days. If it degrades then by all means.

My mind is blown about what this was all about…

Sorry for your loss Yak. When I opened this thread part of me was thinking that since there are so many of us here on barf and this horrible thing just happened right in barf’s backyard, somebody here may be directly affected. Really was hoping to be wrong.

Thanks Rob and all, still trying to wrap heads around all that we are hearing.

And 6 other families

I’ve gone back and forth on this comment and I am not calling you out, just quoting you… just rambling….

6? Try everyone that was there. Survivors guilt is very real. “Why did Mikey die, why was he shot? Why not me?”

Very real thoughts by anyone that was there.

I feel worse for Kornholio’s friend since they have to live with this forever, now

Tonight I will reflect on Keanu Reeves comment about death…
What happens when you die? Those that love you will miss you.
I’m finding solace in that for some reason.

My sorrows might be a little drowned right now…

I am not the only one on this forum that knows him…

So I’ve been “vague” about his actual identity.

Not a negative. Mikey was easily one of the most honest, respectful, and respectable persons I’ve been met.

That’s what I was getting at. It’s insane how many lives this has messed up. And will happen again several more times before this year is out.
There’s nothing at all in the works that will prevent it from happening again.

When I can discuss what this was over/about
I hope we all take a step back and ask ourselves some real questions.
