McRib

Chick-fil-a sauce is good on round table pepperoni pizza

I went to get a McRib at Mickey D back in the Time of Covid but the line of cars was so long I just went home and made a burger. I forgot that until this thread caught my eye.

Chik-Fil-A is starting people off at $23.50 an hour per the sign posted outside their restaurant in Pleasanton...

Jesu Christo.

My first job paid something like 52 cents an hour. Seriously. I have the stubs. Given, it was in Germany working at army meat packing plant serving the armed forces, but fuck anyway. I mean fuck an anyway from the bakc and front both.

Damn, 0.52/hr is basically slavery.

My first job pumpin’ gas at a Union 76 in Walnut Creek paid me $2.30/hr. Gas was 56 cents a gallon and next door was a 7 Eleven where I could buy 2 hot dogs and a Coke for a buck. Circa 1976.

Edit: Every American 16-year old needs to step the F away from tik tok and Call of Duty and work at a gas station even though gas station jobs have been pussified.

Damn yer old.

Yeah, 52 cent was shit, but that was in Germany, when 52 cent bought TWO liters of beer, and $2 a nice dinner.

I agree, working at a gas station taught me something. Not sure, what, but it was an interesting time.

It taught me how to clean bathrooms (people are gross) which helped me land my next job as a janitor making $3 an hour! I was rich and that job helped my get my 1969 Road Runner bench seat reupholstered :love

I have a bottle of the Polynesian sauce that I use on stir fried meats and veggies or noodles....

Gas stations now are mostly mini-marts, I'm not sure what the lesson is in selling lottery tickets, but there must be one....

They get 5% of the sale plus a cut of the prizes. Obviously the overhead is low enough to make it worth their while. Always see folks playing those scratcher things.

Plus it helps drive traffic into the store, where many will buy overpriced snacks.

I must agree with you guys about the Mexican Pizza at TB. I literally had my 1st one, because I normally NEVER deviate from normal order of 2 Soft Taco Supremes. If I'm feeling really "Wild and Young", I'll get the Crunchy ones!!!!! Well, anyway, I got a Mexican Pizza and I really enjoyed it!!! Then I tried to order it about 2 weeks later, and I was told that "it was no longer on the menu". Cry cry cry.

Kornholio-

I truly admire your passion for this topic!!!

I’ve slipped a bit the past week being distracted with free pizza at work and two days in Vegas last week. But at 13 so far for this season.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

I popped my McRib cherry tonight.

I wanted to dine in for the full experience but the San Ramon Mickey D provides only “take away” (inserting Euro snobbery to enhance the experience).

I opted for the meal; pairing French Fries and a seasonal Coca Cola 2021 with the ‘Rib. The girl behind the counter filled my request for extra crispy fries. That young lady is a goddamn angel. She said “I will make them for you.”

I found outdoor seating nearby and dove in. Fluorescent lighting sets the mood whenever you’re hitting fast food!

I started by cleansing my palette with a few crispy fries
- my first course. My first impression when I opened the “take away” bag was the carton looked like a goddamn coffin. After opening the coffin, I was surprised how small that fucker was. Its like 1/2 the size of a Togo’s small No. 9.

As I picked it up I was pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the bread. I saw some familiar onions and pickles. The sauce looked like ACDelco Type III. The “meat” was indiscernible because the ATF smothered it.

So I took a bite. The bun was very good! Moist and airy. Too bad their hamburger buns aren’t as good.

The ATF was bland and syrup-like. A little too sweet for my liking. It could use some spicy zing.

The “meat,” and I use that term loosely, had an odd texture. Definitely did not have the texture of pork but reminded me of the “meat” in a headcheese Banh Mi.

Headcheese can be described as an amalgamation of all sorts of meat scraped off a pig's head - that’s the McRib meat!

Imagine mechanically separated pig meat and parts then formulated, steam-compressed, reconstituted, injection-molded, 3D-printed and reanimated into a meat-like product. That’s what it tastes like.

I polished off the ‘Rib. It was not too shabby. It could use more meat as I thought the meat:bun ratio should be higher.

Would I have another? Yes but the game plan is to order two next time. I’ll take the meat from one and shove it into the second McRib then toss the bun from the first. That will certainly increase the meat:bun ratio. I’ll also pack some Tabasco sauce to add some zing.

Anyhoo, carry on!

I haven't had head cheese in some time, but the kind I did have I actually liked. I don't know if it was universal, but it was pretty good.

Oscar Mayer used to sell head cheese in deli case next to hot dogs in there little yellow packages, but I have not seen it in some time (and I don't think it was OM head cheese that I was trying).
