More Time To Get Fit - 2025

Just getting over some sickness that kicked my ass the last week and a half. Not sure what it was but damn it was brutal fever for days and then once I got over it I would feel okay but any kind of exertion would wear me out and I would be on my ass again. Was finally able to get out and do a little work in the yard this weekend so maybe later this week may start hitting the gym again.

i am not using it as permission to go hog wild (pun intended). another blog from surgeon quotes the same numbers:
boop and another from a hospital. boop x 2

what seems important is the quality of the food. lots of protein and nutrient dense food. make of that what you will but it sounds like staying well hydrated and nourished helps prevent muscle loss during recovery.
What you eat doesn't really cause your body to 'maintain' the level of muscles, there has to be a demand in the form of load (exercise) put into them in order to maintain strength and fitness. Extra calories aren't going to maintain your muscles, they'll get added as fat. That's just sports science, when you are exercising to a level below your homeostasis (comfort zone) for your current level of fitness, you body will take a path of reversion with your fitness level until it reaches a level consistent with your level of exercise. An example we were given in sports science was a graph that showed what happens when distance athletes train for 2 years then take 2 months off, it's pretty shocking that after 2 months all of the fitness components (O2Max, enzymes, muscles, etc) have returned to a sedentary level of fitness.

That's rough, hope you're back to 100% soon 💪

Made a good deal on a Free Motion G624...I've always wanted one of these, as my first piece in my gym. Coming in a bit late and it's superfluous at this point with the other equipment already filling the spot she'd fill, but the want never subsided, so hoping she fits makes friends with the other equipment!

Best workout machine, ever!

You can hit every muscle group with that machine, I gave serious thought about getting one of those about 12 years ago. Not that exact model, but a freemotion machine. Amazingly versatile.

Between that cycle and this one, you could keep yourself extremely fit.

It's a hand crank machine, it gets every muscle in your upper body including your core, when you don't use the seat, it also works your thighs.

Amen, Brett! I've got that exact machine in my gym, with the detachable seat. It D-stroys you in like 2 minutes, on a mid level setting. Thing's legit. I think the Matrix unit like in my gym an your pic are like $3K new. I found mine In near new condition out of West Auctions for $600....STEAL.

That is a steal!
I do 40 seconds, as hard as I can go, then 1 minute light then repeat cycle 10 times. By the time I'm done, my whole upper body is ripped.

I'm gonna try your rotation. Thanks brah!

I do that workout on it as my last machine and last workouts. It also serves as my cardio for the gym, it keeps my heart rate elevated.

A common VO2Max workout in cycling is a 40/20. 40s on, 20s off done at RPE 8-9. A beginner set of that is 3x6, an advanced set is 3x9. You could do the same with a handcrank or rower for tons of cardio gains.

i tried a hand cycle. (cheapie from ebay). felt like a total wuss for being zonked after five minutes of relatively easy effort. i feel
better now.

in other news, i got a good wheelchair. pushing it keeps me in HR zone 2 and even got my heart rate up to 160-162 a few times!

Love those fast stickers on your new 4 wheeler TWT. I’ll be expecting to see power slides and wheelies when I visit.

How long are you gonna be in that chair R?

another four weeks. potentially more. it’s already been eight and i am growing impatient.

i’m intermodal. i use crutches for short distances and tight spaces. i went *up* five stairs today. that was a first. it was scary but i’m proud of myself. i use a walker if i'm trying to scoot things from one spot to another with me because it has a nice pouch. i use the wheelchair when im tired and thus a fall risk. my friends push my chair along the el dorado trail and i push, too, so that i can get outside and get my heart going. it definitely does that.

i got most of a monster cross bicycle today. it needs wheels and a few other bits. my roomie is a wheelwright and bike mechanic. i feel like walking is going to be really hard for a long while so a good alternative is inportant.
