More Time To Get Fit - 2025

Nah, I used to play soccer, ran track + cross country, and yes, ran a lot in the military. Father time taps me on the shoulder frequently and I'm no longer the spry young 5:04 miler I used to be, but so far I've been keeping up ok more or less.

Average pace is around 8:30 or so. I can hold a 7:30 pace for the first 2-3 miles, then switch to max-treadmill-not-quite-full-sprint speed for intervals until time or distance are complete, with a 1:30 rest at a brisk walk in between "sprints" (it's not quite all out, treadmill doesn't go that high).

I used to run 6:00 flat on the mile in high school...got down to 5:04-5:10 pretty consistently in the military, with a 12:00 2-mile and 18:00 3-mile time, so I still feel heavy and sluggish (and my legs, hips, shoulders, etc complain) but I can get it done. I think. I only managed about 60 miles when I did this challenge last year.

Also I mix it up with biking every 3-4 days or so like I said.
hey! let me recommend this book for you since you mentioned having some tension.

Semi-functionally? lol. I'll be ready for this summer!

Hell yeah! You did damn good. Maybe we'll get Brett up too.

I've always preferred the jet ski over the wave runner, the former takes real skill to ride, the other doesn't.

Is that an old picture or do you still ride a jet ski?

That would be cool, it's been almost 30 years since I rode on them, it was my brothers and when I was visiting him I learned to ride it and being someone who likes to push the limits, I got fairly far along the learning curve.

You and P are racing at the end of the weekend!

alright: i need updates from you beasts. my big achievement this week was moving from using a walker to getting around on crutches. (for short distances)

Did you order bands on Amazon yet????

My "wish I'd known that earlier" thing this month: L-Methylfolate. B9. Wow. If only I'd know like 20 years ago. Several things better: Vision, productivity, word seeking, name recognition, all better in very short time. That tells the story. The ADHD component that plagues me in tasks has been well suppressed.

That's my update R. I think I've bettered my daily dopamine issues. *think*....

You choice, but I like handled bands, personally. You can always grab the nylon in front of the handle for added grip work and / or tension change. So long as there's several different resistance bands. Good on ya R!

between you and @Climber it’s clear there is no losing. i’ll get the handles set. thank you, gents!

I've covered 69% of the 100 miles goal for february. (nice).

Skipped today to go watch USA vs Canada though so I have to run 7.2 miles tomorrow to make up for it....or like 4.5 for the next 4 days. Kinda rather just jog the 7.2.

I tell ya - it's not the physical exertion that's getting me at this point, it's the boredom running on a treadmill. Music helps, but...my attention span is just not there even when running.

Try turning on TV in front of you I find the visual stimulation helps more than just music alone.

I found another anti-deskjob exercise to do at the gym. For me, the deskjob and the cycling wreck my psoas and leads to lower back pain. The new psoas exercise is weighted knee lifts - stand straight and gently hold one dumbbell on one knee. Raise the knee as high as you can. I think it’s helping.

I found out how strong my cycling coach is in the gym. His single leg press sets are done with 285lbs on the angled leg press machine. With the sled weight, that’s near 400lbs with ONE leg! I can do 0.75reps with the left leg and 2 reps w the right with 0lbs added to the sled . So now high weight low rep sets have been added to my plan.

Saturday will be my hardest cycling workout ever. 2x10 of 20s all-out sprint with 1:40 rest. Then ride for 90min at endurance pace. Then a 20min sweet spot interval. Then 1x10 of 20s sprint with 40s rest. :barf

you’re a weirdo. i like this about you.

i also love that this thread has fitness nerds that run the gamut.

My teacher told me that in eastern Europe walkers were made out of lead pipe and thus were quite heavy. The users didn't worry about falling over backwards because the walkers were so heavy so they stood up straight rather than hunched over the walker. The other effect was due to the walkers having no wheels so the user had to pick up the heavy lead pipe walker and move it forward thus getting some upper body strengthening.
