More truck talk. All-electric Ford F150 Lightning.

When they offer an electric Maverick. Probably won't be long. I think you'll have to give up the idea of a two-seater, though.

yep yep. even the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are more likely than not to come with 4 doors it seems. i don't think i've seen a 2 door ranger yet. i'm sure they exist but they just aren't in demand.... for the same reason a Long Bed is now only 6.5 feet long.

i dream about putting a tesla drive unit between the IRS from a ford expedition under my 67 F100 2 door Actual Long Bed. There should be quite a bit of room for batteries to make the range pretty decent for the "i really shouldn't be buying this large thing from craigslist but i am" duty it typically does :laughing

Probably an excellent time to be an academic that specializes in Supply Chains. All sorts of good data out there from the recent interruptions due to COVID. Research papers and case studies for years. :laughing

Oh, yeah. I have my PhD in Armchair Lean Manufacturing.

I mentioned before that the Ford Mach E EV has had serious delays in delivery and canceled orders. Some to be owners are hearing from the dealer "chip shortage" as the reason for the delay, but some say this is BS because chips were already ordered and delivered, ect.

Other manufactures have not had the same issues as Ford. One was increasing production through COVID.

There is one that parks in my Garage at work. It is an SUV.

no doubt it's an SUV, but as far as SUV's go. i'd rock it.

As far as I know, the only major car maker that has not slowed production much because of silicon chip supply is Toyota. They have been able to keep things running because after the Fukushima disaster a few years ago lead to supply chain issues with silicon, they made adjustments to how they implement their version of just in time manufacturing, and started to keep a 3-6 month supply of silicon chips in reserve.

Its another US Automaker :cool

Mach-e is a sweet car. I like seeing those on the road and the reviews are more. My only criticism is they are hecho en Mexico and they only plan on making 50,000 a year. Small potatoes, Ford. I think the F150 Lightning will be the same way.

If you are talking about Tesla, they are not close to a major manufacturer yet, In 2020 they did a bit over 500k vehicles sold. For comparison, here are the top manufacturers numbers:

They aren't a startup anymore, as much as they sometimes act like it, but they also aren't 'major' in the way that Ford, GM, or Toyota are.

Yes, Tesla is still small, but in 2020 Tesla was 12th in the US in 2020 ahead of Mazda, Volvo and Land Rover/Jaguar

I'm not very concerned by this, but it looks like the MachE and the Ford dealers are having some growing pains.
