More truck talk. All-electric Ford F150 Lightning.

All I want is a tug of war between this F150 and Tesla Truck!

The epa rating is 300 miles…. With 1000 lbs in the bed. The tester wasn’t fully charged in the video and it had over 350 miles left of range…
https://youtu.be/J2npVg9ONFo

“ In reality, the Lightning could manage over 400 miles per charge minus cargo.”
https://electriccarnews.com/2021/05...mile-range-is-actually-with-1000lbs-of-cargo/
Looks like the original range estimate numbers were with the truck loaded.

Your article quotes the video I posted :laughing

My bad, I actually haven’t really read any of the posts since my last one.

Lightning dreams...

Spring '22 is going to be electric :)

Production is going to be limited relative to demand. I hope you are high in the reservation list.

Similar issue with Mach-E. They can’t make any more sales because production is limited. Ford’s plan to secure battery cells in the supply chain is why.

The current bottleneck is on silicon chips, not batteries, but as EVs become more ubiquitous that could change.

The Auto companies that canceled chip orders in the pandemic are the ones that are behind and the chip industry will recover. Good news that there will probably be more chip manufacturing in the US. :thumbup

Does Ford even have the expertise to design and build new manufacturing facilities?

Good for them.

This shortage may end up being a wake up call to automotive engineers to consolidate a lot more. Cars should be able to get away with having only one or 2 computer chips that handle all of the functionality, instead of like 37 different chips.

A much more likely outcome is that they'll rethink the finer details of their JIT manufacturing strategy.

How is it not good enough? How many people drive more than that in one go? 240 miles is more than half a tank of gas. How often do you people use more than that in one day of driving?

It’s not going to hauling your travel trailer or fifth wheel anywhere. :wtf

Yeah, canceling chip orders during tight supply messes with JIT (Just in Time). :laughing

Modularity vs Integrated

Good practice in engineering is reducing # of parts, yet there must be a comprise with modularity, serviceability, reliability, ect.

Perhaps you don't want your ABS and Air Bags to fail when the radio goes out. There may be redundant chips by design.

This highlights how hard the automotive business is. You can't ship a vehicle if one part is missing.

Probably an excellent time to be an academic that specializes in Supply Chains. All sorts of good data out there from the recent interruptions due to COVID. Research papers and case studies for years. :laughing

I mean this is dope and all. But when will they make electric, small-ass trucks like they did in the early mid 90's. I just basically want a car with no back seats powerful enough to carry 2 motorbikes. Basically an urban hauling vehicle.

When they offer an electric Maverick. Probably won't be long. I think you'll have to give up the idea of a two-seater, though.

An all electric El Camino throwback would be dope :cool
