I just saw a story on MM "difficult Start for Ducati." This should not be a surprise to anyone, really. While everyone else has come with new engines, new bikes, new electronics etc., Ducati has come with new... paint! :laughing

I know Nicky has to be particularly frustrated, but for the other guys, I think they are just trying to establish a baseline and go from there. For me, Jerez will be a bit more telling of what lies ahead for them. And I still don't expect a hell of a lot. One can hope, though.

Word 'round Twitterverse is that Hayden has said Ducati needs to look at bigger and more radical steps to improve, and Dovi has said that Ducati pretty much needs to do an entirely new bike.

So much for chippin' away.

Has Hayden been this vocal before? I saw he was frustrated in his interviews, but I don't remember him being all that negative over the last couple seasons

Not that I can recall, but there are others out here that know much more than I. My take on it is that he is now established as lead rider and is taking a bit more ownership of the house. He also wants results for himself, man. I'm quite sure he is getting tired of being 2 seconds plus off the lead. I'm glad he is showing the hunger.

Not really. He's always been a PR-poster boy. But he is in a unique position now as the only guy with the longest-running history on the Desmo that he's effectively the go-to guy headlining development. Remember that since the testing started, the other three guys have just been doing shakedowns of the bike while Hayden has been the test-mule for new parts.

As far as my memory goes, Nicky has been the poster boy in shut and do your job attitude... smiles for PR, loves the fan, talks great about Ducati, keeps his head down...

That said... dude needs to pack up and go to a satellite Honda or Yamaha bike and get back near the front... dude won a championship so he knows how to ride a bike, being stuck on a Duc for so long running midfield has got to get old after a while... even if it is a factory bike...

He's been staying on the factory Duc for the same reason Dovi left the satellite Yamaha for it.

Things I took away from reading it:

It's such a no-brainer for the non-ART bikes....just buy the Honda and go racing with a pretty good bike.

Speaking of ART...who was it that was saying the factory Ducati would be in danger of having the ART beat them in 2013?

Espargaro on the ART is already faster than two of the Ducks. Oh the shame.

+1. Hayden has always said "we cant be happy w/ the results", but has never rly complained about the lack of development. he let Rossi do that all last year.

IMO, Ducati is "fully testing their current bike before making new parts" simply because they have no fucking clue what to do to produce positive changes. waiting for 1 more rider, Dovi (Spies is hurt and Iannone has no experience) to tell u that the bike stuffers a lot from understeer isnt going to change anything. even i can tell from the videos that Nicky and Dovi dont seem to be able to put the bike on line compared to the other factory riders. hell, even Karel said the ART handles better than the GP12 that he had.

Is there an echo in here?

Nicky Hayden

We found a couple little things over the course of the test, which allowed us to improve our consistency on day three, but I think we need something big.

Andrea Dovizioso

We still have to decide which parts we can bring to the second test. Unfortunately, we need time to try something big.

Is there an echo in here?

yep, and hopefully its making Gobmeier sweat.

i love how each of the factories have divided the track based on their strengths. Yamaha is good on the front end into all the corners, Honda is good on the rear end out of all the corners... and Ducati is great down the straights :laughing.

badass

i didnt read much of this thread so i'm sorry if this has been discussed. but i just read from motomatters:

"Stefan Bradl was the fastest of the satellite Honda riders, the LCR Honda man nine tenths slower than Pedrosa, and a quarter of a second behind Crutchlow, and the last man within a second of the leader Pedrosa."
http://www.motomatters.com/results/2013/02/07/2013_motogp_sepang_1_test_day_3_times_pe.html

i thought Crutchlow was on a satellite bike... and Bradl was factory backed? can anyone clarify this for me?

Yes... and more or less yes (Bradl's on a factory-spec RC213V).

Dovi now knows what he's in for.
