We talkin bout the practice BEFORE practice.

we talkin bout practicing for practice

:laughing

Seriously though, I wasn't trying to kill the discussion, I was trying to move it forward.

Sepang is a weird track to try to compare times with. Weather conditions are totally erratic throughout the day and seasonal changes are significant. Variance in temp and humidity in particular are hard to put in context.

The other factor is that the track is so long that that seemingly huge gaps aren't as significant as they would be at another track like Valencia. The conventional wisdom (which is debatable) is that a half second at Sepang equals a couple of tenths at Valencia.

C'mon, I think we can all safely assume that he wanted to make his mark and see what he could do. I'm not bashing the guy, I just don't think there is a lot of information in the lap times except that he's not embarrassing himself.

At least we know suspension-tester Bautista is giving Honda lots of feedback about how to ride around a half-second slower than a rookie. :p

You jelly?

That pic is impressive to me. He looks more off the bike than he usually was in Moto2, already. He is dragging elbows, and has as much butt off as Stoner. I think the kid is going to be really good in the big show. He has virtually zero fear, a ton of skill, and has won in a very tough series, Moto2.

Who knows how fast he could have gone in testing. I am sure he didn't want to crash the new bike in front of the HRC/Repsol wigs, right away. That would be "Bad form", as the Brits would say.

Anyone know what kind of dough he is pulling in??

Be interesting to see the $$ across the board for the MotoGP riders both factory and ART.

btw, Gresini's CRT ride went to a moderately unknown Aussie, Bryan Staring. and its not Kris McLaren, the guy that didnt qualify at PI.

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2013/Bryan+Staring+on+Go+Fun+Honda+Gresini+CRT+bike+in+2013

its weird seeing such a huge gap in talent and/or fame between the riders on CRTs. Edwards vs Staring, two guys on polar opposites of their career, both in experience and accomplishments. crazy that theyll be racing together.

From here better rider salaries
Barbera or Silva receive less money or risking their lives that many of the mechanics of MotoGP. “The salary ranges between 40 and 70,000 euros in MotoGP,” one factory. More than most of the Moto2 and Moto3 riders, many of which come in and out of teams.

I am guessing MM is in the 1.5 to 3.5 million range. But, things drop like a Stoner after the factory teams. Yonny Hernandez brought his own sponsorship and that is his pay, for example. Man, racing has gotten tough(er), even at the top.

I think putting together a good guess on pay for the series, is a nice winter project.

The elbow drag pic make it look like he is comfy. I'd be curious to see if he produces one of those typical Sepang ass out like crazy slide pics.

If they are going to be waving stars-and-stripes, and making good for the homies, I can hardly wait for a nice fat 20k word dissertation on how Ben on a Ducati satellite team came about. That should be interesting.
