"My name is Soren and I have a problem ..."

I might have a few too many projects, and a number of wonderful bikes.
But I am not married and my girlfriend has a few bikes herself, so I am managing my problem.

Right now I have 5 bikes. I feel like that's about my max, from a maintenance time/expense standpoint. It just seems like at least one bike always needs something.... [/QUOTE

Yeah. More than 1 for sure, but maybe less than 5. I remember having 5 once, and they all needed fuel, oil change, tires, a couple probably valve checks and plugs... almost made me want to go out and buy a new bike.

I have a hardcore rule: N=1.

That's why I can't have a normal supermoto or a fast streetbike and had to combine the two.

My n+1 rule has moved on to bicycles. At one time I had like 7 Moto's at once. Good times. Filled with a dumb amount of maintenance.

i do this more with motorcycle parts than motorcycles. i only have a race bike now and theres always something i want to make me faster or make it easier to go faster. the same applies to my bicycle too, parts not bicycles. though with my bicycle, all thats left is to get a new frame which means im getting a whole new bike.

This rule works much better with firearms. They're much easier to store and require far less maintenance.

My wife has owned more motorcycles than pairs of shoes in the past 5 years. I just sold 2 of her bikes after she bought a new one but now I need to sell her kx100 to buy a crf150f.

Then I need to sell my Wr250r to buy wr250f or crf250x.

I don't think the buying or selling will ever end but it keeps us happy

Life is too short to ride the same bike for more than 2 years

I know guys that have 10+ bikes but they don't ride them all. I think it is wrong to garage a bike like that, let it go to a good home

I had my R1M and an Ape Caponord. I switched my R1M to GP shift for the track and would nevre go back. But I found that I couldn't be safe with 2 bikes with opposite shifting so reluctantly sold my Caponord after shifting to 2nd instead of 4th once too often.

Since going back to one bike, I find that I am riding it better than when I had 2

Only one at the moment due to garage space limitations. My next house will look like the below blueprint, and the problem will be rectified. My wife has 2 motorcycles currently and is in the market for a new one, on top of a whole gaggle of shoes so maybe my negotiation needs some fine tuning.

^^^^Ha, that is awesome. Only thing is that the bathroom is a little far from the Master Bedroom. Looks like you'll need a urinal in the garage!

Or add a bathroom on the back of the garage to make the master bedroom a real master bedroom.

It's a draft, not the final plan :laughing:laughing

A friend told me she described the right number as
A streetbike, a dirtbike,a racebike and a spare.

Myself. Happy with one. I don't ride it enough as is. It would be demoralizing to have a garage full sitting there lonely.

These are the red ones :laughing

Four at the moment… I want to buy a fifth, and I should really sell two… I just can’t bring myself to sell off my older babies…

I’ve had 3 at various points, but they were never the right 3, and now I’m down to 2, which is the absolute minimum - a ‘09 Multi 1100S for commuting and longer rides, and a ‘06 DRZ-SM for city riding. The ideal number is probably more like 4 - a tall “adventure” bike, a supermoto, a track or sport bike, and a trail or other off-road bike of some sort.

Actually my rule is !N (Not N). Where N= Number of bikes you currently own.

You are always dissatisfied with the number you have.. I had many at one point and I was unhappy that I am not using them all and just paying for insurance and registration. Then I got rid of many, then I got unhappy about not having enough.. Its just how we keep ourselves entertained..

I have now resigned to the fact that there is no correct # that is satisfactory. So stop counting the #. Get the ones you want to own and enjoy. Change them frequently..

If I had an aircraft hanger, the right number would be:

upright sportbike, non-op track day bike, green sticker dirt bike, 900+cc adv bike, touring bike, cafe bike, a grom, and a scooter. Then add in all the tools, stands, ramps, and I'm set. :teeth
