Never Underestimate How Gay The Surveillance State Is.

I see WAYMO cars parked on my street and I'm 100% certain they are being used for surveillance. They are parked there at least 18 hours/day.
 
I've seen headlines about school busses and trash trucks having surveillance cameras.
I guess our AI overlords will be busy classifying the many terabytes of data.

You are not putting it all together. Just these 2 early stage developments are a start for having good databases on if you are gay or poor.

This same technology is the kind that will allow them to track your political affiliations through social media and your bloody credit score just to let you into private business when you walk around. Do not forget Cakeshop vs Colorado. Private business have a much larger area they are free to discriminate than Government does.

The design of this place is such that a bar or cakeshop can be pieces of shit and if society doesn't like it, they take their business elsewhere, but the fact of the matter is that we're saturated with pieces of shit, so it's most often not enough to change anything (masterpiece cakeshop is still in business and gets 4.2 stars on google reviews btw). Forced kindness is not the design and discrimination laws violate the design, even if that effort comes from a good place.

I'm not even sure what to takeaway from, "do not forget...". Is it that the shop denied service, that the shop was sued, that the shop won, that society likes discrimination and helps them be successful, or maybe something else? We do have a larger area to discriminate....as we should, because that's the design of how the hierarchy of rights works by domain. We have no rights here on barf because this is not our domain, and if it were our domain, then our right to run it as we see fit is supposed to be protected.

Pretty sure that, whoever "they" are, they already have a good idea if you're gay or poor and your affiliations from your social media posts. Google, "history of mass surveillance in the united states". Or, maybe they don't. Maybe you googled freddie mercury and ramen within ten seconds of each other and they think you're gay and broke, who knows. Too much data mixed with incompetence and corruption, the more things change..

You are not putting it in the context of normalized surveillance with restricted entry at every retail location in America.

Do you not remember 30 years ago when people thought having your physical location tracked 24/7 would be an absurd and outrageous Orwellian nightmare that people would never accept?

These states of existence are not made in great draconian proclamations. They are made through a lulled complacency towards the shifting status quo, with bread and circuses streamed live for all to avail.
 
I definitely agree with the way that people accept things incrementally, though I do think it's more of a bottom up versus top down deal and that there is no century-long master plan, but I pointed to the history to imply that many many many many things have happened already, but then what? Because snowden revealed all that post 9/11 surveillance, but what happened? That was a quarter century ago. What was the orwellian result? Are we still waiting for it?

I had a super obnoxious conversation with google's ai and it said that the post 9/11 mass surveillance caused a "measurable and chilling effect on a loss of our constitutional rights", but when pressed on what rights were lost, it was all defined as self-censorship through a fear of getting in trouble for something that it said there was no evidence of anyone getting in trouble for. It cited a 20% reduction of looking up bomb-making stuff or whatever on wiki lol. Then I asked how it distinguished between the way people have become more aware over recent decades and a specific result of mass surveillance and it said it was all a gray area.

Pressed for specific examples of someone getting fucked and it gave about eight examples where someone was arrested over botched facial recognition and it took hours/days/weeks/months to sort out, but they sorted it out. That sucks, but that all easily fits well within my "extremely unlucky" statement. Just regular old in-person bigotry seems to be doing waaaaaaaaay more damage, especially with the recent resurgence of it. Not to imply that the whole "less than" thing is of no concern, just that so far it seems to have odds on par with winning the superlotto.

Last time I looked into this, your "opt out" expires every year or two, or anytime you experience a "life change" (like a new address, phone, or job).

Some brokers also disguise themselves by posing as some kind of blog, hoping that when you see it you'll think you made a mistake and leave before you find the page with the opt-out instructions. :ROFLMAO:
 
I recently called SSA to sign up for medicare, I was stunned by the amount of things they know about me. Now that DOGE has pulled all that info from the government and given it to who knows whom, well let's just say you have no secrets.

under california law, ‘opt out’ doesn’t expire. what you are likely referring to is - after 12 months, you can be contacted by a business with a request to ‘opt in’. ignore it, and your ‘opt out’ remains in force. data brokers differ in that if you ‘opt out’, they are required to permanently delete your contact information.

edit - if you detect a violation of the above, recommend you report it to the state attorney general (non compliance reports are taken very seriously).

It is unfortunate how much they collect, but if you are like me, and saw all of this coming 30 years ago, doing your best to keep your digital space separate from your meatspace certainly can help. Maintaining all the different emails addresses and devices is a hassle, especially if you refuse to give you a cell phone for 2FA.

However, for those of us that have always had cyberpunk as their favorite genre of fiction, it is totally worth it.

Everyone in Congress should be made to watch every episode of Black Mirror before they are allowed to legislate anything.
 
The controlling majority wants this transition from public govt to private govt where they're just a small admin service that feeds public funds directly to private companies which monetize everything for profit including our data. I remember el dirty saying that we have exactly the govt we want. Which means, there's nothing to oppose. You're just of the minority opinion. Bunmer.
