NFL 2018/2019 Thread

That was a great game. Mahome is the real deal. You all are right, if KC can fix their defense - even just a little - they are contenders for sure. As for my Broncos, the few mistakes on defense cost them. Miller isn’t playing up to expectations, IMO.

I think Denver is gonna do fine and so will Miller. Mahomes was exceptionally fast so he didn't have much of a chance. Denver D will be feasting on slower teams of which there are many. Keenum looks better than I remember.

Even tho' I officially and forever hate Elway, Denver has a good team. They proved with the aging Manning that you can make it all the way as long as the defense is super-consistent and scrooge-like to opposing teams. This is a good precedent. How similar this year's D is, I dunno, but at least they have a defensive vet of those days to show them the way.

Either of those teams would kick the hell out of the Pats. And that's in the top ten list for me when it comes to the AFC. Thankfully I get to see if I'm right in a few weeks. Too bad Denver doesn't have a game with the Pats this season.

Denver defense will get better as the season progresses or should I say as Chubb gets a little more acclimated to the NFL. That should help take the pressure off Miller and he can terrorize again.

I don’t think Mahome’s speed was the fly in the ointment, it was his ability to pass with his left hand. Once he did that ya gotta wonder what else can this kid do.

Funny I just had this discussion with my friend who is a Philly fan so he’s familiar with Reid’s failings. I told him Mahomes is smart enough to change the play calling to save Andy’s bacon if need be.

Not that I want to bag on Marty Schottenheimer, but Andy Reid is the new Schottenheimer, great regular seasons, big thuds in playoffs. At some point, Reid will have to the big one to dispel that.

He's going to need help. I'd suggest that the QB he had prior to Mahomes just wasn't the type of guy who picks up a team and carries it when the challenge comes up. Sure, Smith's a solid, productive QB, but he just doesn't have the "it" factor like the great ones. If he had played on a team with a solid defense or had a coach that could brow-beat a team into playing better he would be on the same level as Phil Simms.

Mahomes has "it." He will be able to cover for any failings there are in Reid's game plan or play calling both in preparation and execution.

they at least look like a football team doing football things

Agreed. I have a visceral reaction to Kaepernick, not because of the flag thing but of all those busted plays where he'd throw it into the sidelines. It was bummer ball. And ol Staley lived through much of it, as well as the man who can do no wrong in my eyes, Frank Gore.

He's the real deal. Only thing that will stop KC is their defense

Who Mad?

1 Cleveland Browns Myles Garrett DE Texas A&M SEC
2 Chicago Bears Mitchell Trubisky QB North Carolina
3 San Francisco 49ers Solomon Thomas DE Stanford
4 Jacksonville Jaguars Leonard Fournette RB LSU SEC
5 Tennessee Titans Corey Davis WR Western Michigan
6 New York Jets Jamal Adams S LSU SEC
7 Los Angeles Chargers Mike Williams WR Clemson ACC
8 Carolina Panthers Christian McCaffrey RB Stanford
9 Cincinnati Bengals John Ross WR Washington
10 Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes QB Texas Tech

Oh yeah, can Mahomes fix the Clock in the 4th Quarter?

This is indeed AR's biggest problem as a head coach.

Dude, I honestly do not understand how someone can so grossly mismanage the clock at the Pro Level. Like, this is basic Madden Football shit.

Dearest mother —
We were bested by Capt. Brady, the behemoth known simply as Gronk and the rest of the Patriot men. My sidearm was true, my sight tremendous. Largely, we gave as good as we got in the exchange of fire. But, alas, the battle plan fell through. Now, onward.

Ahhh, you must have forgotten about Marty Schottenheimer, possibly the most clueless clock manager the game of football has ever seen.

Don't watch football anymore, but flew into Santa Ana today and saw the Chargers Gulfstream on the ramp with their helmet on the tail. Nice ride

Yeah, but I didn't have to face Schottneheimer 2-3 times a year for 13 goddamn years.

The Raiders did, and it was glorious to see all of Marty's failures in the playoffs. I don't believe we ever played one of his teams in the postseason. The regular season was...painful... facing his teams. His strategy vs. the Raiders were to play conservative and capitalize on our mistakes. and it worked. well.
