Over-inflating some NY Giant when the NFL was like 8 teams that has been long forgotten because of the evolution of the game has pretty much diminished the "Fine for Their Time" accomplishments.

Half-time show was boring and lame-ass. I don't care much for the genre but why didn't they get some younger acts instead of a bunch of geezers? And I didn't get the symbolism of all the houses. Somebody understand that?? Enlighten me.

We eat at halftime and then fast forward to the game with a few blessed minutes to fast forward through some of the incessant commercials.

Clearly I'm a bad American.

Good game though.

I love winning bets even if the team I chose loses due to the point spread.

I'm a College Football fan so not invested in the outcome.

Apparently, viewership for this Superbowl was up 19% from last year, even with the Winter Olympics airing.

Is that a reflection of American's addiction to Superbowls, regardless to who is playing?

Surprising, but I guess the party is more important than the teams.

Or perhaps last years numbers aren't really valid because we were in a Covid surge a year ago and that put a damper on Supberbowl parties.

I used the halftime to set up my Instant Pot lamb shank recipe, the saute part. So I'd come out and check the various acts as they progressed. It just seemed tired and undynamic, even the guy hanging upside down bit.

I used the 3-2-1 method on baby backs and it came out great.

6 hour process but worth IMHO.

Friends made great sides.

Lamb shanks/ox tails etc. in an instant pot are excellent though.

They came out good! We keep trying different tough cuts of beef (rump roast, chuck etc) so I'm getting better at it. All of our ranch beef is grass-fed and not really finished so its easy to toughen up. Lamb is much more forgiving.

This is the one I used. Next time, I'd use less liquid, and I'd add taters. Otherwise it came out pretty good.

But, dear, I was just using that as an example of antiquated references. You're the one who brought up a player from literally 50 years ago.

Which is mainly my point. It seems that there is a certain group on this board who are men of a certain age, that need some regular reminders that football from the 1970's (and honestly the 80's at this point) is ancient history, just like football from the '40's or '50's.

History has value, and I often quote and reference it, but it is not relevant or meaningful to modern surveyors of the sport. Recognize dated old man shit as dated old man shit.

What did the folks here think of the halftime performances?

I watched completely surrounded by white people with an average age of probably ~40. Only me and my friend's wife liked the show. Everyone else was complaining or taking a break to grab food or another drink.

Lyft prices yesterday were gnarly. Good thing I was able to split the ride there and back with 2 other friends. 45 bucks for a ride that normally costs me about 15.

Prince was still the best one.

I thought the halftime show was fun. It was essentially a greatest hits of hip hop with a lot of big stars. Sure, it didn't compare to Prince's show but I don't think any future halftime ever will. Prince set the bar really high.
