Official 2018/2019 Sharks Thread!

good run.

good defense by the Blues. the Sharks just didn't have enough left to provide the offensive talent needed to defeat a good defense.

I hope Karlsson's groin and everyone else's heads and mouths heal up for next year.

I'd be shocked if Karlsson signs with the Sharks. I'd be happy, but surprised. I see him signing with an East Coast big market team.

Apparently I don't see what many people do in EK - he seems to have a habit of giving the puck away, making poor decisions, and basically playing like a run-of-the-mill bottom-level defenseman. I think the reason he seemed so successful in Ottawa is more a reflection on how bad Ottawa was and not how good HE was...

His advanced stats in San Jose after the initial adjustment period were off the charts good, better than Burns. He's a sneaky awesome player, when he's fully healthy. After the first 20 games, he was one of our best players and the Sharks would sign him to a long term deal in a heartbeat if he'd stay, but I just don't see him becoming a California guy.

I hope Thornton plays one more year though. I'm really gonna miss him when he's gone.

probably.

I think the only way he stays is with another 1 year deal, because he feels like he didn't give the Sharks a full shake on his previous deal (which he didn't, let's be honest). Hockey players can be strange like that.

He'll definitely want to go to a contender. The Sharks are a contender, so there's that. It's possible, but most likely he'll want 10+million a year and with this deep lineup I'm not sure if Doug Wilson would purge other veterans or risk losing our younger guys who will be commanding significant contracts soon in order to pay him.

It'll be up to Jumbo if he wants to keep playing. He's ok with a 3rd line role and not making top bank, so there's room for him if he's willing.

I cannot imagine Doug will let Pavs go. He's pretty loyal with guys until well after the writing has been on the wall (see: Marleau, Patrick).

Jones...well, he's ours still. Which may be another reason why Doug will try to lure Karlsson to stay. If not him, then another blue chip dman, hopefully. The recipe was right for the year, just ran into too much injury.

as Doug says every year: no rebuild. retool and reload, and get back at it.

Good luck to the Blues.

It was a good run, but the better team won. The things that killed us were the injuries, lack of offense from EK9, shitty PP, and slow start. I lost track how many goals we let in the first 5 minute of a period; too many. I'm sad for Jumbo, but hopefully he's willing to play another year on our 3rd line for minimal money.

I dunno. It took a while for EK65 to get up to speed, but I thought that once he did, he was stellar. In many ways, he was better than Burns. I also don't see EK65 staying with the Sharks. Even if he did, he would command a premium that I don't think we could sustain.

I think I mentioned before but he plays a lot like Scott Neidermayer did. A team can really go far with a skater like that.

he has 1478 points all time (14th). I wonder if the 1500 point benchmark allures him in any way. He won't catch 13th but he does have a chance of passing Oates at 7th for assists.

I really don't see why Jumbo wouldn't come back. He'd still be a top 3rd line player on any team. He's great in the locker room. He loves the game.

A big problem each year they have a run, is that they putter out due to injuries to top guys. The writing was on the wall after the first goal of the first game, with Pavs going down, and it snowballed from there.

I don't know how they solve that. I think they need a few more big bodies to absorb some of those hits out there. Meier and Hertl are big boys and they're still learning how to be physical.

Getting more physical players on the 3rd line may be where this team is headed, in response to the punishment they just took. That could be a reason Jumbo won't return.

Its in his heart, its coursing through him. I dont want to see him leave the game, ever. I know he has to retire sometime, but I wanna see him in teal always. He needs to be something in the organization. He's truly an ambassador for team teal.

Yes, re-sign, not resign. Heh heh

I really hope the kids talk him into one more year. I think with a couple of mild tweaks we can make a run. :)

bahaha doh!

Every year, we've had a chance to make a run for the cup. It's been both a blessing and a curse. I wonder how many extra games each player has played compared to others. And how does that impact the body and mind after 5-7 straight years.

Meier and Hertl are the power forwards you hope for; the strength and grit of Clowe with the mind and skill of Pavs. Our future core looks promising.

Defense will be fine with:
Burns and Simek
Vlasic and Braun
Dillon and ??? (Heed?Ryan?)
When Simek went down with the knee, things changed.

I'm not ok with it, but sports is like that, gotta get over him and move on. As much as I wish he'd re-sign, it doesn't look like he will, so I have to lie to myself to feel ok. :laughing

He'll want and get a max deal and I'm not sure that's what would be best for the team going forward. For a guy who hasn't played a full season in a while, and seems to be getting more fragile, I'm cool with it. Fun while it lasted though. Guy is a freak talent.
