Official 2018/2019 Sharks Thread!

That call sucked

Jones was impressive weathering Colorado’s onslaught at the end.

I couldn't get off work early, so I'll be there in spirit, watching from home tonite. :party

It was a bit of a ghost town when the game started, as the vast majority went to the game. That left me and my boy free reign to choose whatever place we wanted...he wanted Peggy Sue's, so we did that, lol! The only other 3 patrons in attendance were some seriously hammered old ladies. One of which had sharks leggings that were legendary, haha (too bad I didn't get a pic). We had some fun (until one of them broke a Larionov autographed pic during one of her celebrations lol).

in related news...

reports are that several Avs players went over to all 4 officials after the game...and shook their hands.

hockey, correctly.

That team has a very bright future in front of them. very, very fast and skilled. The Sharks are lucky to survive them.

And what do you know, but the Sharks actually are pretty good, eh??? How about that Jones guy, eh???

Fuck me, I would have never thought that in the 7th game in the 2nd round, the last person I was worried about was Jones. What a turnaround for the fella. good on him.

LETS GO SHARKS

It was the right call. Just not in the spirit of the game that you want to believe is being played imo. I'll take it though :laughing

I know it was the right call, never said it was a bad call. Still sucked though.

LETS GO SHARKS

Oh yeah, they're a good team, fo sho ! I feel fortunate to have survived that one. PHEW ! Jones totally stepped it up. I'm proud of him.

I was ready to toss him and that feeling could return if he decides to let in all sorts of first minute goals again. :laughing

That being said, holy crap, I think this series has a chance to be another long one. GOOOOOOOO SHARKS !!!!

PS: Pavs return was HUGE !!

oh yeah, it's obvious Pav's presence was huge. That first goal ...mmfff that was classic Pavs. What a wicked skip that puck took off the ice just in front of Grubaur.

McKinnon's injury was also huge. I was surprised to see that he did it to himself instead of a Shark pushing him into the boards for a penalty.

And then of course the curious play by Landeskog to not hustle off the ice when he was standing in an offsides position. Totally innocent and totally had nothing to do with the play. I feel bad for him there, and have respect for him for taking responsibility. The Avs did have 6 men on the ice there, and got the impression that the refs felt bad about taking it away so they maybe didn't call the too many men there. Which is fine, it already being a huge break for the Sharks.

And speaking of breaks...I wonder if the announcers think the Sharks have never had a bad break go against them? It's not like they just had to stand there and the refs gave them games. They still had to take advantage.

IMO, and as a homer, even the few breaks the Sharks have gotten this playoff year do not even come close to making up for some other really bad breaks they've had against them over the years. Maybe this is their year the hockey gods decide to give them a little help along the way?

Did anyone else get the sense that the entire broadcast crew wanted to see the Avs win and were kinda bummed when the Sharks pulled it out. I'm a huge Keith Jones fan (If you haven't read 'Jonesy' yet, you really need to stop reading this and go order it), but he seemed bummed out that the Sharks held on. The entire crew kept harping on 'what if McKinnon hadn't missed 10 minutes'... Hello?! We didn't have our captain and leading goal scorer for 6 of the 7 games!

I was also shocked at the lack of awareness of those guys after the game when they were wondering about how Martin Jones' play has improved of late. It's obvious. The Sharks entire game plan has changed and they're playing much tighter defensively, especially in the neutral zone. Our neutral zone scheme is totally different from what we played in the regular season and the start of the playoffs. It led to a lot more goals for us, but also a lot more GAA, particularly off the rush. The Sharks have changed strategy and that's a big reason for the lower GAA. This allows Jones to stay deeper in the net, which is where he's at his best. The commentators didn't seem to have a clue.

yes and yes

The Sharks made a concerted effort to take away the middle of the ice and it worked. There was a play COL ran a lot: rush the blue line, then flatten out and kick the puck back to a rushing winger with a head of steam, in order to carry the puck into the zone. The Sharks did a great job shutting that shit down time and time again. But when it worked it was fucking scary!

I'll say it again: COL has a heck of a team. It was no small feat to beat them. This may just be the last chance the Sharks have at the cup for a bit.

MacKinnon looked 50% faster than any skater out there. One game he caught a shark player on a break away so fast from behind it looked rediculous

Love it !! I've been trying to make a trade for that Jumbo/Burnzie bobblehead, but I don't have anything people want. :x

The speed evolution in hockey, even just this year versus last, is shocking. I think it's a combination of all the speedy young talent that's entered the league in the last few years, and coaches now developing schemes that are beginning to take advantage of it as the rosters have turned over. The transition game in hockey has changed dramatically and the ability of teams to change directions with immediate speed after they force a turnover is really mind boggling. No more is there the slow, corral the loose puck, pass back to the D, turn and set up the rush. It's bang, we're going the other way with three guys flying. It's made hockey much more exciting IMO.

That said, I'm not ready to just hand the Avs the Cup next year. They still have issues on defense and depth. There are a number of teams in similar situations to Colorado, whether any of them takes the next step is really unclear, especially in a sport like hockey where there is so much parity and success or failure is often a mix of determination, health and luck.

Remember when Edmonton was the next great thing because of McDavid ?!?! We'll see how they're able to adjust to the league adjusting to them.
