Official BARF BEER Crew

I don't know Koi, for you and I it might be lame as we live here but for an out of towner $75 to be driven to three pretty spread out breweries like Lagunitas, Russian River and Bear Republic, including food, it really sound like a pretty good deal as these things go.

I mean, you work in Napa, a single tasting at one of those snooty Napa wineries can EASILY set you back $30 with pathetic pour sizes.

Some of the more expensive joints justify this by giving you a free glass! :laughing

I'm a club member in a Sonoma Winery with some Napa Wineries so I can get a "deal" to taste at one particular winery in the company's portfolio.

My "special" price per head was $50 vs. the regular $75.

Um, no, pass, I'll got to the sister wineries that give free tastings to related members than you very much! :laughing

Maybe 14 of us should all sign up for one of their Brewery Tours en masse and make their lives a living hell! :teeth

Dude don't you own some sort of restaurant? You are soooo doing it wrong if you still are paying for tastings.

I haven't paid for a tasting in years but yea, in Napa most start at 10-15 for a basic tasting at a walk in winery. Appt only wineries start at 25-50 and can go up to 100 per person depending on the snooty level. Tours are sometimes included with that, sometimes not.

christ dude-if you think you know everything, you learn nothing quickly. Try to allow additional opinions here. You sound like a dick actually.

Please report to your high horse, your opinion of me is already that I am a dick, or a worthless piece of scum, or whatever. Don't really care, please move along.

Having met GAJ, I'm pretty ok with poking fun at him. I know I can't do the same with you so I'm going to be blunt.

I make my money talking about wine tastings, the cost, the snooty level, and where to go. Do I know everything, no, but I also know that as a local, and as someone in the industry, there is no reason to pay for a tasting, and if they don't give you an industry or local discount, then they don't want your business.

tonight I sleep, tomorrow I might have a beer sitting upon my horse that is high.
I am a bit too secure to have to splain further.
Still looking forward to having a beer with you guys.......

My thoughts exactly. If I can buy a 6 pack of Racer 5 for a buck more then fuck the Bistro. God damn Vick and his get rich quick schemes and dreams. I mean, the place has no heat in the winter. No a/c in the summer. Other than rising rent he's got no other overhead. I've been a nice guy through every price hike and now my only alternative is to hold on to my cash and be a cheap tipper to my friendly bartender? Its time I walk arround the neighborhood and see how the other establishments are doing.

Waiting for Brats and Brew to open and see what their prices are.

A workmate and I scored hall passes, and visited Original Gravity in Downtown San Jose last night. Interesting place. LOTS of different beers. Apparently they rotate the kegs often, so the beer menu is constantly changing. Anyway, too many to try in one visit, but I was able to try several including: Namaste (Dogfish Head), Hop Arsenal (Altamont Beer Works), Allagash Four (Allagash), and White Ale (Saint Archer). All were outstanding. Had a sip of Peanut Butter Cup Porter, and Pumpkin; just not my thing. The food was surprisingly good. The Hipster was STRONG. :laughing I'm guessing it's proximity to SJSU might be contributing factor. They were many, but harmless, and provided a fun distraction. Worth a visit IMO. Would be a good hang out with a group of friends. :thumbup

No offense taken.

Retired in 2008 and even when I was working the restaurants we had didn't serve alcohol so no inside track to free tastings.

I do the Napa tastings for free when my friend from Miami is here every 2 years or so, (he belongs to numerous high zoot Napa Wine Clubs), and in Sonoma County there are two places for free tastings I highly recommend to everyone. Jacuzzi and especially Carol Shelton though it is in a small industrial park and hardly "scenic." Carol Shelton wines are among the best in Sonoma County and they are very liberal with the pours, especially during the week, because they are so lonely.

My wife belongs to several Wine Clubs so we have access to free tastings and her sister belongs to numerous others so free wine is no problem! :laughing

Looks like a cool place; hipsters are harmless.

Bookmarked.

Bookmarked.

I enjoyed the heck out of the place. :thumbup

My workmate was who suggested we visit. He's a craft beer guy. He's suggested another place for next time; ISO Beers in downtown San Jose. They don't have a web site, but the reviews look good, and there seems to be good press as well. Their menu looks pretty strong too. I'll let ya know my thoughts in a few weeks after I've had a chance to visit.

I already got ISO Beers bookmarked also. I just head to the south to drink beer that often because I work in Santa Clara everyday and I like heading north on the weekend.

Original gravity is awesome, but yes, not cheap. But it doesn't matter because none of you are drinking this, the best beer in the world:

Suck it!
