Official BARF BEER Crew

GAJ and i_am_the_koi need to get an "unofficial" BARF beer weekend on schedule. I'm guessing we don't mention BARF at Lagunitas? You guys seem know the pulse up there. Could be a fun thing. :teeth

I've talked to a few people at Lagunitas, they don't really give a fuck as long as you don't :smoke on property. I did apologize for BARF's and my own lack of tipping that day and have since taken care of anyone who serves me better than normal. The ones who did work that day said we were a good group, sounds like the one beertender up stairs was the one who nobody tipped because the ones downstairs were taken care of rather well by some of those who attended that day. I guess the free beer tokens were confusing to people and nobody thought about tipping someone for free beer.

No excuse and it sucks that we burnt that bridge on our first crossing.

I'd be down to help for a beer weekend/tour though. Be tricky to organize, I wonder if any BARFers have LEGAL access to a school bus. :laughing

Anytime you want to come up though, just let me know. Can't speak for GAJ but I doubt he'd have a problem helping either.

I am on my way to the Bistro to buy a $7.50 pint or three if anyone's in or near Hayward. Want to find out when they're crackin' their Pliny.

Their DIPA feat is Saturday. Not that younger is coming out for that occasion, they'd be crazy to, just mentioning it.

There is this also.

Hanger 24 DIPA is suppose to be just as good as Pliny the elder.

I had it and it's pretty good! they have a cool tasting room down in san bernadino that's next to an airfield. I wouldn't say pliny good...that's just me though. I liked one of their IPAs (I think they had 3) and a darker beer I can't remember which. would def. hit them up as I think they're doing a takeover somewhere this next weekend for sf beer week.

I just bought a bottle of the Hanger 24 DIPA. Probably pop in a week or so. Depends on how much drinking I do during SF Beer Week. Good Bye Diet.

On feb 12th the Bistro is having the Younger party starting at 11:30 but they want $8.50 for a 10 oz pour. I may skip it this year.

Count me in; I have virtually no availability issues

Will be at Russian River on February 12th as I have an inside secret handshake kind of way to avoid the line thanks to my daughter who used to work for the State Senator that gave them official State recognition and whatnot.

I did wait an hour once, (middle of the afternoon 2/3 of the way through the availability period), and like Bay Arean, fuck that noise.

The Younger is interesting but far from the "best beer in America."

There are too many good ones to single out one IMHO.

Sounds high, but so does gas, traffic hassle and line wait to Santa Rosa; depending on where you live. If you really want to taste it, it's an option. The time I tried going to RR for it was a bummer and waste of time. For a geezer like me, watching your life tick away in line in downtown SR surrounded by skinny jeans and laptop/smartphonies is just not a great tradeoff. And I feel like I'm enabling their project to profiteer off the short term availability. Makes me like them a bit less, even while I understand that seasonal production of beer is a time-honored tradition in Europe and stuff and I just need to get with the program.

Beer related story:

Bought a 4 pack of Boddington's for the Supercross races.

Opened a couple for my dad and I and they tasted kind of strange. Very sweet, not like Boddington's normally taste at a pub.

I contacted anheuser busch about it as they are the parent company, and got an immediate response. Told them what was going on, what the beer tasted like, etc.

They are now sending me an 8 dollar check. Not a certificate for free beer, not a coupon, but an actual check.

Thought that was kind of cool and I'll probably go spend it on another 4 pack of Boddington's.

And like Guinness, low alcohol; great session beer.

Some of these monster IPA's, while nice, certainly aren't session beers.

Usually when I'm out driving, I look for low ABV and no more than two.

When I'm riding I don't touch any booze...unless I'm on the bicycle and then same rule as driving.

I try to go to bars that will serve half pints. That's the way to go. You can enjoy more than one strong beer by that way. An 8oz pour is all you need to enjoy a beer. My problem is I get full before I get drunk. lol.
