I agree, eww

Not to worry...low sides have sheared off the blinkers on both sides at this point. When I get around to replacing the bodywork, it will be race-only, and there will be no blinkers at all. :teeth

Race plastics = thumbs up!

There have been several low sides...but it ain't no thang but a chicken wang. I bought this bike to learn to race, and I couldn't start really learning until I stopped being afraid of crashing. After my first crash at Laguna, I stopped fearing it, and that's when I changed my name to CrashJunkie. Viva la Junkie!

Luckily, I've learned a few things at this point, so I don't think I'll be crashing so much. Primarily, I've learned this....

Crashing hurts. especially when you're old :laughing

So I think this winter it will finally be worth it to get fresh bodywork and a fancy custom yellow paint job for AFM 2007...I may even get the big tank ding fixed... look out Formula 40 and Open Twins, the CrashJunkie arriveth!

my monster goes anywhere! :teeth

after about a half mile of silt and almost washing the front a few times...i'm thinking...this is not a good idea...then i think to myself again...."dude, when have you ever had a bad idea" I answer myself....."never" so i keep going. :laughing

20mph for 16 miles. this shortcut turned into an adventure cut. but man, the bike feels so fast when you're doing 90mph right after.

anyway, here's a dirty duc!

Right on! good to know that your not taking my smartass remarks about your blinkers too likely. Good luck in AFM. and wow, a 916 to learn to crash (or race) :wow

i guess you have your s2r to show off and keep clean. altough I would have done the opposite with the race/show bikes.

Don't forget to post up pics of your new paintjob:teeth

thanks.

they're Fast by Ferraci rearsets.

they are pretty aggressive, well....for my height anyway. but I do okay. never adjusted them or moved them from where they are in 23k miles. :teeth

i rode a friends monster, and he had his set a little lower and it was really comfortable....so, who knows.

hope it helps.

To Ducati or not to Ducati

Just a question: planning on buying a 2000 Ducati 748 w/ 12k miles on it. 2nd owner and was (so he says) downed in a parking lot at about 5 miles an hour. The photos he sent me showed damage to the left side fairing. Looks like a hole the size of a grapefruit was ground down into the side of the fairing. Other than that there are some minor scrathes on the tail and on the right side of the fairing. He did change the gearing and went -1 tooth on the countershaft sprocket. Replaced the sprockets and chain just recently. He says the last service was done at around 6k miles from the previous owner. Is there anything that I should know about the bike or questions that I should ask? There is only 1 key no spare, no owners manual or documentation on services. Just don't want to end of buying a lemon.

Oh yeah the registration expired last year and it needs new tires. I haven't seen the bike in person yet but was going to this weekend.

Thanks

A hole the size of a GRAPEFRUIT caused by a 5 mph parking lot lowside? Me thinks not. But that's just me. I've tossed a bike down the street somewhere between 40-60 mph and didn't suffer damage that severe.

Then again, just take it to a shop and have it checked out. If the shop gives it the "all clear" then don't worry about what the guy has to say about it.

Well I am looking for a bike and it's a choice between a 2000 748 or a 2005 SV650S. It's gonna be a daily commuter plus occasional track days and weekend jaunts up in the hills.

As much as I hate saying this...

if I were in your shoes, I'd get the SV.

I know which bike you're talking about.. STAY AWAY.. His story sounds way to fishy, and with Ducati's you don't want to take any chances. No documentation? haha.. NO THANKS! Did you know that the flakey rocker arm issue occurs on *ALL* 748s? Do you know how much something like that will cost? About 2K, and if you drop a valve, there goes your motor..

I've gone to look at Ducati's, who say; "the bike is running perfect" but needs a little work here and there, only to find out that the bike doesn't start or hold an idle.

This is a bike you *need* to know the history before buying... There are a lot of 'problematic' Ducati's out there, and you have to be cautious.

Don't think the 748 is a good deal at $5200, just cuz it's cheap.. in the long run, would you rather spend $7K on a perfect condition/maintained 748, or shell out thousands of dollars at a time to fix your lemon?

Thanks for the info, I have emailed the seller and told him that I was no longer interested. So now I am looking at a '05 SV650S or a '05 GSXR600.
