Oroville dam spillway damaged

They said there was erosion that was moving quickly toward the emergency spillway and were afraid it could compromise it. They have since stated that the erosion is not moving as quickly as originally thought. They increased the flow from the normal spillway to 100K CFS. If the emergency spillway fails, a significant amount of water could be released.

Helicopters will be dropping rock into the eroded area. I don't know if they will be doing this at night. That would be a dangerous operation.

I made the mistake of reading the comments on a Breitbart post about the failure of the spillway. Those nice Christian Trump supporters are disgusting human beings. So many people wishing death to the liberals in California. I can't even.........

repost-if anyone fleeing from the areas that have been evacuated needs a place to stay I have a spare bedroom in my home.....

Too soon?:teeth

Makes you wish we had more water storage. It would be interesting if we could find a way to put some of that water back into the aquifer.

If its possible for farmers using the irrigation system. To load up their fields with water to possibly recharge Aquifers.
The idea is stifled by water Districts would still charge for the water usage. Suspending charging for water during these emergencies could be easily implemented.

Hundreds of thousands evacuating. Hwy 70 opening both directions to assist the evacuation. :wow

This really bothers me. So much water is wasted and so many fields are non-producing at the moment because they have had lack of water for so long.

Flooding them would probably bring needed nutrients to the soils (carried by flood waters) and of course help recharge aquifers..

I'm guessing this is much more complicated but it sounds good..

News conference from California Department of Water Resources at 9:00pm. EDIT: Press conference postponed until 10:00pm.

The Sacramento Bee reports that water has stopped flowing over the emergency spillway as of 8:15pm.

Little do they know, Northern California is mostly Republican.

damn this is fucked... This can go bad... real fast... best wishes to those out there.

If there is a respite, hopefully it doesn't go back to sitting on hands because some warm weather and a rapid snow melt and this could get much worse and not just right now.
