PGE our friendly Bay Area Utility

What is wrong with discussing politics? So much that is wrong with California comes from politics. And the only way to make positive change is to discuss it.
We have a place specifically for discussing politics, to keep it from crapping up the rest of BARF

Like clockwork.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s latest filing with California regulators requests an 8% increase in revenue beginning in 2027. The company said it’s their lowest in a decade. After 2027, if PG&E gets their entire proposal adopted, average monthly costs are expected to increase about 3.4% per year, or $9 on average, through 2030...

We had a name for PG&E in college. Pigs Goats & Extortionists

PG&E’s eminent service this year to my place of residence has been great. No problems.
Thank you for your service PG&E.

I hate PGE with every fiber of my being.

We had an issue at our place in Miramonte. The claws that hold on our meter were arcing and causing intermittent power interruptions. They came out, shut power off to our entire property at the pole, then pulled our meter and left it sitting on our hot tub. The PGE employee who did this was fantastic and super helpful, as was the guy who eventually got us up and running again. From that point on it was our responsibility to fix the problem. It took 2 weeks total to get a whole new panel up and running. The PGE workers were very efficient in detecting the problem, eliminating the threat to our home, inspecting the panel, and getting our power restored.

My problem with them stems from them continuing to bill us, using “estimated usage” for the entire 2 weeks our power was off. That estimated usage was higher than our actual average usage as well! When I called them about it they suggested there might be an issue with our meter and there’s no other way to charge us. They didn’t seem to understand that the issue with our meter not registering any usage was due to it being removed by PGE and us not having any power to actually use!

It took far more of my energy than it should have going round and round with them to remove those estimated charges. The right hand should have known what the left hand was doing.

I have made it my mission to keep as much of my money as possible out of their very deep pockets.

PG&E’s residential electricity rates have increased by approximately 80% from 2019 to 2024, rising from about 25 cents per kilowatt-hour to 44.8 cents per kilowatt-hour.
This surge is primarily due to investments in wildfire mitigation, infrastructure upgrades, and increased operational costs. Consequently, average monthly bills have risen from $179 in 2020 to around $300 in 2025.

So basically, "ooooohhhhh you wanted us to provide a service without burning people and animals to death and destroying forests and obliterating homes and homeowners insurance sustainabiluty, yeah, you have to pay extra for that".

Thanks to PGE my home in central Santa Rosa now costs 9 grand/year to insure instead of 2.

That's quite some comment on their resiliency efforts.

Which, by the way, they were already supposed to have been addressing with previous rate increases rather than deferred maintenance / upgrades.

Now looking at Solar for the rental my daughter lives in.

They only us 4000 kwhr/year so up front cost shouldn't be too prohibitibe.

Friend got a quote for a system for his 7000 kwhr/year use and it was about $30k including battery with almost $10k in "going away soon" Fed Tax Credits so if we want tax credits we have to do it this year.

We are very happy with our system we got two years ago.

5 year payback but PGE wants to make that a 4 year payback it seems.

It is a free country. If I was unhappy with Thelma as some of you appear, I’d quit using them. They only exist because of you.
I like the service I’m getting from PG&E.

Yes, let's just all stop using PG&E! How did we not think of that sooner!?

Many people don't like buying stuff made in China, yet every one of us has stuff made in China. If only we could reconcile the conflict...
