Pismo fans should be skerd

...these days I just shrug it off and enjoy the remaining ride...

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.
This is why OHV parks get shut down. Too many people simply post complaints and then shrug it off.

I didn't start this post just added my 2 cents..
Sorry if it wadded your panties.
Nothing to see here folks....move along.
I'm out.

I think the super majorities will always override the people who will have differing opinions.
Its just a fact.
It is what it is, and just like a1scoot says doesn't mean we cant be friends.
Who wants division anyway, certainly not me.
That's what makes teh Barf such a great place.:teeth:thumbup

This is my point. The dog and bicycle folks have formed an alliance in Marin that’s beginning to take hold .

Yeah, and people with real lives and responsibilities don't have the time to stay on top of this stuff. That is why we have elected representatives. Grrrrr...

anyhow, next post...

Here is the latest CORVA announcement, though it is impossible for many of us to go to this next meeting...

On Friday June 21st, the California Coastal Commission released documents and staff recommendations in preparation for the July 11th meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Luis Obispo to review conditions compliance for the operating permit for Oceano Dunes SVRA. The Coastal Commission has jurisdiction for all activities and development that occurs on coastal lands in California and periodically reviews the conditions at Oceano Dunes SVRA. If the Coastal Commission chooses to revoke the operating permit for Oceano Dunes SVRA, it would stop all current operations at the park. The link to the Coastal Commission meeting is here https://www.coastal.ca.gov/meetings/agenda/#/2019/7 and make sure to click at the top of the page on the Thursday, July 11th agenda. Oceano Dunes is item #12, which contains a number of links. Please click on all the 'Hearing Procedures' link to understand how the meeting will be run and how they will allot time for public comment.

The 2 additional links provide access to the Summary of Staff Recommendations for changes to park operations, and the exhibits used to support the proposed changes. Both a long documents, both worth reading to understand the problems as viewed through the filters of Coastal Commission staff members. It is clear that staff members are showing a bias against OHV recreation and those that enjoy OHV recreation. The discrimination is lightly disguised, but still very clear to read. The facts are presented in a manner likely to portray the park operations in the worse possible manner, exaggerating claims of environmental abuse.

CORVA is working on a response letter to submit to the Coastal Commission that we will share with our members. But we also encourage all our members and the interested public to submit their own letters through the 'Submit Comment' link on the Coastal Commission website at item #12.

Members of the business community are working to protect their livelihoods and have started a Facebook page so people can report on how much money they have spent when visiting the dunes. Please go to this link and add your receipts to help the park! https://www.facebook.com/OurDunesOurDollars

I too went to Cal Poly and cut my riding teeth in SLO. Spent a lot of time in Pismo on a banshee and my roommates "Beast", a crew-cab, long bed F350 with 16" suspension lift, 44" super swampers, 4.56 gears and propane injection. Everyone knew he must've had a micro-weenis but i'll be damned if it wasn't a ridiculous amount of fun. It was too tall to get the front axle to connect so no 4x4.... but the tires were so big we just dropped the rear to 8psi and muscled our way across the river and around the dunes. Good times. I'll miss the opportunity to take my daughter out there and play

Honestly I would be happy if they started charged to access it and use the money to police the area if it keeps the environmentalists happy. A $10-20/person fee is very reasonable if it's what it takes to keep it open. There's hundreds of miles of beach, I don't think it's too much to ask for 5 of them to be designated to hooligans. If you don't provide a legal place they'll just do it illegally elsewhere

Hey don’t give up just because the Coastal Commission site says...
We're having technical difficulties with displaying our agenda and meeting materials. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience.

This has all been coming to a head, between dust, plants, animals, refinery, air quality, plastic fencing, and too many people, vs C.C.C.
Living the RV life, I run into the "weekend campers" smoldering camp fire, dogs, kids, noise, trash the place, then go home and complain GTFOML.
Fresno and Bakersfield are bad words to the coastal locals

Uhhhh... if as much energy was spent by the moto community at contacting their elected officials as is spent commenting about our government I think we might have better representation.

Just my opinion, of course.

I'll have to see if the return letters I've received from "my" elected officials survived my last move. Every one of them said basically the same thing

Thank you for contacting me, but I know what's best for you...

For an example of where local activism actually works, we can look at the Santa Cruz bike scene. They are building miles of trail in biologically diverse landscape. Pretty much the only thing I support anymore, they actually get shit done

I may be bitter from all of the losses, but Bud is right. I'm skerd I'll never get to do 4th gear wheelies with those beautiful paddle tire roostertails on Pismo ever again.

I donated to the CORVA legal fund.

:twofinger to the CCC.

Too true... when I was a semi regular at Splash Cafe there was a chick that worked there that would always 'pray' for cloudy, windy days to blow the valley trash back to those cities

It really was odd how easily you could pick out the central valley crowd from all other forms of tourists on the dunes. I think it was a "it's not my backyard so I don't have to behave" mindset.

I just re read the report. I have no idea what to do next. I think the problem is unsustainable population growth, but that doesn't not seem to be a subject of discussion.

If you can make it to the meeting and make a respectful plea to allow your family to recreate at this park that would be good.

CORVA is working with the folks at State Parks. I'll try to update this post with what I hear.

signed. Thanks Mikey.

Signed and small donation made

Valley Trash? We always called them "Bubbas". Like, "Great, it's Bubba season...here they come again!"

I grew up on the central coast and when my folks retired, they moved back the central coast and settled in Arroyo Grande. They don't ride and have no interest in it at all, but they live so close to the dunes that I can hear the engines most days when I'm there sitting on their back deck. I can understand why it annoys them, and I can also understand that the local economy depends on the dunes. However, it's poorly policed if at all. I've never seen more than two rangers out there at all and that's only during the day. At night, it's basically a free for all. I think the situation there would improve immensely if it was properly policed and rules enforced. It'd definitely change the attitude of many of the locals. But it really shouldn't go away overall. That'd be extraordinarily bad to the local economy.

LOL, I fell out of my seat reading that.

I lived in AG from 2002-2010, I didn't live there long, but I do understand that reference quite well. The 5 Cities area changed a lot from Spring through Summer, especially holidays and long weekends.

I lived off of Grand Avenue, on weekends, there always seemed to be the constant wail of emergency vehicles heading to the dunes, always out of towners getting into accidents.

BTW, Not arguing either side of the debate.

Why does our community behave badly? Cannot we police ourselves? Peer pressure?

Therein lies part of the solution, me thinks.
