Plus Size Models

Seriously....Ferdie is freaking RIPPED.

Props to him. I've been watching his progression and his dedication is crazy (he's a Marine of course) ahahaa

I asked him keys to success

His response. Be in the gym at 4am.

Agreed. I’m not ready.

This is what his “50” (years old) looks like. Image cut for his privacy. He’s literally a role model for me. This is what determination looks like but he will “never look as good as he could have in his 20s”. :laughing

Mr. Crash probably proves you wrong as well.

Paint it how you like, but nothing I said was wrong. Nobody is ripping anyone's determination. But things get harder when you're older, and no, you won't look like you could have in your 20's. And no, that's not an excuse for anything, nor is it trying to hold anyone down. It's just a fact, take it how you will. If you agree that a 60 y/o competitive bodybuilder would never look like a 25 y/o competitive bodybuilder, then the same is going to be true for a 45 y/o one.

Reli, lookup Chris Dickerson and Kevin Levrone. The average age for Mr. Olympia is 33 years old. Most men in their 30's have an easier time bulking, FWIW.

I'm guessing you don't follow this stuff?

Im leaning towards Reli's view on this matter.
If I'm up early enough to be putting max effort in at 4am its going to be focused on something other than vanity, like building something, taking a class or studying for a test. I used to get up early to cycle but early being 8am, and that was simply for the rush I got from climbing hills (small hills) and I guess the health benefits. Not for looking in the mirror and posing for shirtless instagram pics.

Dudes posing in the mirror at the gym is one of the reasons I hated going to the gym. Having a 6 pack was never my goal. The girls who are into those dudes are probably at higher maintenance level that I wouldn't relate to so catching their eye wouldn't matter to me.

Kevin Levrone is a juice monster, on again and off again. As is every IFBB pro. I know that scene cause a buddy was a bodybuilder and had a supplement store, really a front for selling juice.

I'm guessing you just want to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. The conversation isn't even about bulking up, it's about the amount of work it takes to achieve a certain result when you're older (like a 6-pack), and whether or not muscles look the same at any age (they don't). Look at any pro bodybuilder in their 40s and up. Their pecs do not look the same as the pecs of a 20-something bodybuilder. Nor do their delts. Age changes the way muscles look. Do they look fantastic for their age, of course they do, no one is saying they don't. Props to them for whatever their goal is.

i’m no expert on this subject, but my SO was an olympic caliber swimmer (alternate in one of the summer games). later on he took up competitive open water swimming. all of those events were scored by age category, but at most of them, in the overall winner category (all age groups combined) first place went to someone in the +40 age group. and those dudes were built like the proverbial brick shit houses. absolutely stunning physiques.

That's kind of how I feel. Like I said before, I was pretty cut when I was still in school, even though I ate mostly junk like hot dogs and soda. And merely ran track and did ROTC drills. Never lifted at all. Flash forward to today, I eat better and spend more time in the gym, but I am not as cut, nor do I have a 6-pack anymore. Could I get one? Sure, but it would take even more effort. That is why my reasons for hitting the gym have become more evenly balanced between "I want to look better" and "I want to maintain my health so I can perform better at work, at life, and in bed". When I was in my 20's, it was all the former and none of the latter.

I'm not sure what kind of distance he was swimming, but it's natural to see older people winning events that require long-distance endurance and strategy. Younger people dominate the short distance events. Here's a good article on that -- https://www.theactivetimes.com/why-middle-age-isn-t-past-your-prime

And again, I'm not saying they don't look stunning.....but I doubt they'd look the same as college swimmers. Their muscles and overall physique would be shaped a bit differently.

For one thing, a guy's pecs flatten out with age, even if he keeps lifting all his life. And his waist gets rounder/thicker. And of course his skin quality changes too. It's easy to take photos from a pro bodybuilding contest, crop their faces off, and determine who's young and who isn't.

here is another example of photoshop to 'enhance' the beauty of the model...why can't we just appreciate them as they are in real life??

120 is natural and beautiful, who wants a 180 front?!

It doesn't take 6 days per week at the gym to get defined abs, even for someone who is older :wave. Things definitely change as you age, but I think what Reli is saying has more to do with skin/metabolism/fat than muscle mass.

Haha whoever would distort a front tire like that would likely be the same sort to stuff a banana down his pants.

And how does Cruise keep his glasses on.

Being at a gym by 4:00 in the morning 6 out of 7 days seems like effort to me. :dunno

Not sure if it would take less effort for a younger fella.

it's an effort, I wouldn't call it a big effort though. Just takes motivation.

My dad bod does suggest it's more effort than I can muster ;)

Pretty much. A 45 y/o might have just as much muscle and strength as they did at 25, but it's gonna look different.

As for the Tom Cruise shot, maybe he requested a wider tire to "stabilize" himself during those rare shots when he was actually riding and not green-screened on a rig.

If we are being honest, diet is probably 80 to 90% of it, the workouts the rest...genetics will play a big role as well. Then there is testosterone replacement...have not tried it but its interesting stuff. Anyways, goal is not all about a six pack, just being lean and fit and avoiding all the metabolic disorder that affects the vast majority of the American population as you head in to your 40s/50s/60s

I worked as a financial consultant to the pharmaco that deployed Testopel when it was first FDA approved. :laughing
