Oprah didn't make her fortune telling people how to lose weight.
That would be like Honey Boo boo telling people how to lose weight.
But Oprah is a black woman, just sayin.

True, she made her money telling people how to do things she'd never done herself, hardly unique in her field. However, she makes a lot of money through the weight loss deals and the premis in all her messages in that is that its really not okay to be who you are but instead be like she is, at times and without the money of course.

Quite a contribution to her wealth and while there is nothing wrong with making big bucks, when you distill down her message what is she really telling other women? I doubt many men run to weight watchers because Oprah is in the starvation cycle of her manipulated weight gain/loss cycle.

She also brings hucksters onto her program, selling all sorts of new age snake oil

Wow crazy thread...it's tough losing weight and staying in shape, it takes work and most people are not willing to put in the effort...they then get fat (like most Americans) and blame everything but themselves.

A few things we now know for sure about America...we do not walk/exercise enough. They put HFCS / sugar in everything, everything they told us about dietary fat and sugar was a fucking lie, the medical racket will tell you to take a pill instead of changing diet and lifestyle to reverse Type 2 diabetes.

It is not EASY, but it is quite SIMPLE, it takes some discipline.

Eliminate pretty much all sugar and carbs, do some cardio, lift some weights, try intermittent fasting...you will be amazed.

The sizes we consider as normal in America today is just ridiculous...go back and look at pictures from 40 or 50 years ago, travel around the world and look at other countries if you want to see "normal"....ain't nothin' normal about your average American size...and the stats are something like 40 % obese and 75% overweight.

It is already a huge catastrophe and will collapse the medical system in the years to come.

BTW, I am about 5 11, 175lbs and fair bit of muscle but probably still around 12-14% bodyfat and I still think I have a way to go.

Uh, 12-14% bodyfat is low even for a guy in his 20's. No need to lower it further unless you're actually competing in a sport.

ya bro stop trying to improve yourself what do you want a six pack or something? jeez what a self centered dude

:twofinger

Sure, if you're still young enough to where a 6-pack matters. Reach 40 and no one cares anymore.

America's problem: Focusing on appearance instead of substance

justify your 30%+ body fat however you want

some people enjoy working towards and achieving things. it makes you feel good.

it is easier to bring others down than to really look inward and question yourself

Too much physical stress wears out your joints faster. I have great joints. :teeth

A daily vigorous walk is what my doc recommends. I used to run more but he discouraged that at my age.

America's problem right here folks. Shitting on someone's ambitions because they exceed your own.

I wanted to spend more time riding so I just bought the shirt

I am 16%, not 30%, so yeah nice try

Like I said, turn 40 and then see if you have the same goals. Past that age, fitness matters more than appearance.

In criminal and civil law, assault is a threat of imminent harmful or offensive contact with a person, or a threat to do so. It is distinct from battery, which refers to the actual achievement of such contact.

it's exactly the right word.

How many times have you tried to kill yourself out of curiosity?
Do you even read what you post?

Hint: the word "contact"

Telling a fat person that they're a worthless piece of shit because of their size isn't illegal in most cases (I suspect it can be if you're their employer as it may indicate discrimination, possibly child/elder abuse in some cases too, but if it's a friend/stranger/etc it's legal). Unlike your home country, we have a wonderful law called the 1st Amendment that guarantees freedom of speech.
I have never been overweight, but I spent years recovering my health after some digestion-related issues. It took a shitload of work to get better. I think people who have taken these sorts of journeys and put in the hard work, naturally feel a bit disgusted by people that try to invent cheap excuses or workarounds for why they shouldn't also have to put in the hard work to solve their own health problems.

The people I feel bad for, are the people that work out and eat right, but can't shake the pounds because their metabolism is such that it fights weight loss. Most overweight Americans are just run of the mill piggies who eat too much and exercise too little. I don't think they deserve to be abused, but they almost don't have the right to claim that their body is "normal". And if a fat person starts to talk about body types, they are effectively opening the door to criticism of theirs.
Those people basically don't exist. The laws of thermodynamics apply to everyone.

The only way to gain weight while running a calorie deficit is water weight, and not many people are retaining a lot of water.
So, I call bullshit on this excuse. I have this friend that was dieting weird for like a decade. Was usually big. Would complain she could never lose weight because of metabolism. Said she was doing her cardio. Nothing worked.

She went a year ago had a lap band and she is now like half her size. = Bitch, you just had done been eating too much.

:dunno

Body weight is pretty much Calories Consumed/Calories Burned. Math is math. If you eat only calories that you work out at the gym, the extra calories you burn just by sitting around running your organs all day will result in net weight loss. Most people just don't have the discipline for it though.

:dunno
This.

The TV show Secret Eaters is great, in that they follow around people who claim they can't lose weight. There are two basic categories: people who lose weight when being watched, and people who eat more than they claim.
I used to be 100% on your side on this one, but some people do have medical conditions that cause them to store calories as fat. I don't know the actual numbers, but some people genuinely have glandular problems.
I'd love to see more info about these people. If we can figure out how their bodies work it should give us a free power source.

The fitter I am the better I feel on a moto and the one thing that has helped the most is Yoga. I started doing it a bit over a year ago and the core strength and balance is huge for riding, street or track.

RodR, running is good for you, we may have been doing it wrong tho, I have been experimenting with Vibrams 5 fingers, have not tried barefoot yet but I have been in minimalist Nikes for a couple years now. We most definitely were designed to run and at long distances.

All you exercise fiends can enjoy your heart attacks at age 50 because you've been overworking it. :twofinger

try intermittent fasting...you will be amazed.

I am a believer in the benefits of fasting. I used to practice it many years ago and have been giving it some thought again recently. Just one day a week should provide positive effects.
