OEM is a good way to waste money on a battery if you ask me. Many better options out there for the same $$ or less

lasts 8 years... or 11.5 depending on the case (what's bad with OEM lasting 8 years?)

which store then.

It was supposedly in the Reno area, so the odds you felt it in SF are basically zero!
shows the power of persuasion after a Google phone alert!

OEM did fine but I've bought plenty of whatever they had branded batteries at whatever auto parts store I had access to and so long as I didn't buy the cheapest one in stock they went forever. The one I recently replaced in my Golf was last replaced over 10 years ago. I bought whatever the better batter option was that the AAA truck had for me and I bet I'll get at least 8 years out of it even with the car being rarely run.

The AAA battery is a great deal. Straight replacement no prorating.

The best car battery available is the Red Top Optima. I would never get an OEM battery. They are only average batteries and they cost way too much.

And bring your meter and take a reading before it sees a charger and it’s installed. Many batteries sit for a long time on a shelf and self discharge. You want one that is, at least, 12.6 volts so you know it hasn’t sit too long and shortened its life.

A quick google shows that is a $300 battery in most cases.

I just get interstate batteries at Costco.

They're not the best batteries IME. They seem to have a shorter life expectancy than other branded batters. Which is weird because I'm pretty sure they're made by Johnson controls, who makes batteries for a bunch of brands.

This was a third party that works with AAA, that said I didn't check on the battery brand too closely as it was more about convenience and the price felt commensurate with what I'd pay to get one at a local parts store. The abuse the batter in my car sees from nothing but short trips 90% of the time will certainly shorten it's life.
