Progressive sucks

Progressive - Got my window smashed on my truck, took it to the bodyshop I wanted to work on it, and they waived the deductible due to a very light scratch from glass on the door panel. Worth the 100 bucks I saved not replacing it, can't really tell it's there.

I've also had Progressive for about 10 years now, 2 claims (1 at-fault, 1 not-at-fault), and zero problems. Even after the at-fault (wife in the car, totaled it), the premium hardly went up at all. Granted, I think they shorted us on the value of the car, but aside from that it's been good.

Not sure what level of coverage has to do with cancellation charge but anyway does this qualify as "premium"?
Have had Geico for auto for 10+ years no issues with claims etc, had them for moto as well (no claims so far & hope it stays like that). Switched to Progressive on a whim and found out they are just bottom feeders! Anyway, whatever works for y'all just thought it was very cheap to stick a customer with cancellation charge.

...So, is Geico any better, then?

I am (have been) with Geico for almost a decade, and I have to say that it is one company who I have absolutely no complaint about... Especially the speed at which you can be talking to a real person if you call their number.

ps:
1) I have never filed a claim - so I don't know how my experience might have changed...
2) I do not work for them :)

I just got Geico about a year ago, and they are super price competitive, and their Telephone service rocks.

The wording OP posted makes it seem like you may get a refund no refund or owe them. And they get to decide at whim. Very odd.

I got money back canceling Progressive two years ago. No refund but no charge canceling Geico a month ago.

I NEVER pay year in full like OP its monthly or maybe quarterly for me. Wonder if how you pay your dues makes a difference??

Last time I looked into Geico you could only get $300k Liability and UIM on a moto policy.

I am told you should have at least $500k on a bike due to the very real chance that you get hurt badly vs an auto accident.

I just switched from Progressive to State Farm. Doubled my UIM to $1m and the price stayed about the same. About $400 a year for full coverage on the thumper. Grey hair + slow bike = cheap :).

The rate you got was based on a full term coverage. Since you left early and they didn't receive their projected income your premium was basically prorated to suit the shorter term.

I've had Progressive for many years now and recently totaled a bike. They paid me enough to buy two bikes.

I did a rate quote with Geico, quote was acceptable, decided to accept the quote and go with it. Less than 10 minutes later I receive an e-mail stating that they miscalculated my insurance and that below in the same e-mail was my true quote. 3 times what they have offered me initially, zero accidents, zero claims, zero tickets, nothing, clean record. So I ended up going with Progressive who's initial quote was within $20 of Geico's initial quote. So far no claims with Progressive so can't really comment on their claims process... however the few phone conversations I have had with Progressive CSRs have been very positive.

Like cellular providers insurance companies always win. Pick one you want to get screwed by...bend over...and pay them for the privilege.

I had insurance on my 250, canceled it when i sold it, got a refund, got a new policy for my r6. Also had a bumper thumper with my civic si 2 years ago, they paid out as normal, no hassle from progressive. Not sure whats going on with OP.

Thats why I prefer to get my phone insurance through squaretrade. Flat fee, and they insure everything except theft (for obvious reasons).

Could have been worse. When I cancelled my policies in Michigan (to move here) I was slapped with ~$150 in 'seasonal' fees. Apparently, since there's a very distinct riding season in the Midwest (as opposed to nearly year-round here), if you're on a monthly payment plan, your monthly payments are the same, but you 'use up' your coverage at different rates depending on the month. So, for example, you may only 'use' 2% of your yearly premium in February, whereas in the warmer months, like July, you may be using 15%. So, since I had apparently 'used' more of my yearly coverage than I had paid in, they were legally allowed to recover that additional cost. Pretty weak.

Just canceled with Progressive and I'm getting refunded some money.

A recent poster on another forum quoted new terms in his Progressive motorcycle insurance renewal, making it reasonably clear that they will no longer cover trackday or instructional events. Many providers have an exclusion for racing, competitive, or timed events, but trackdays are generally covered. Here was the new text:

Just got this with my renewal card. I read the whole thing carefully looking for just such an exception. Last page:

"The following provision is added:

RACING EXCLUSION

A.This policy does not apply to any vehicle:

1. While in an organized competitive event... (etc)

.....

2. while used in "performance testing" that is done on a closed road, or a race track, or a testing facility where there is no competition.

"performance testing" is when an "insured" uses any vehicle to:
a. test its performance, speed or handling
b. test or practice driver skills.

Ive had progressive since 02 and never had a problem with them even when i added a bike they misquoted me a price but stood by it for the term and when it was time to renew it only bumped up a few dollars.

Didn't read through all the thread, but in case it hasn't been mentioned yet I believe the cancellation fee is waived if you tell them you're moving out of state... depending on how comfortable you are lying to them.

Progressive sucks when trying to collect from them too, if they think they can put part of the blame on the one that didn't cause the accident. We had to get a lawyer to collect in one family case and it still isn't totally resolved nearly a year later.

I will NEVER support Progressive in any way. I'm tempted to get a bumper sticker: "If you have Progressive Insurance, Please don't hit ME."

Paid me out more than I paid for my bike new, within a two weeks of my crash. :dunno
