Progressive sucks

Paid me out more than I paid for my bike new, within a two weeks of my crash. :dunno
I'm glad that they took good care of you.

They don't do that for everyone. Especially some innocent people who get hit by people covered by Progressive Insurance. :x

A recent poster on another forum quoted new terms in his Progressive motorcycle insurance renewal, making it reasonably clear that they will no longer cover trackday or instructional events. Many providers have an exclusion for racing, competitive, or timed events, but trackdays are generally covered. Here was the new text:

Not new. I've had Progressive since 2007 and they've never covered track days. The only company I know who does is State Farm (but they charged a lot more).

Geico has always quoted me high prices. Clean record, one accident 6 years ago, yet they want 3x what Progressive wants. Doesn't matter if it's car or bike, supersport or touring bike.

Strange - all of the ones I've been with over the years covered trackdays. Nationwide, Foremost, Allstate, etc.

FWIW, I've had Progressive for years now (both auto and moto) and recently had an at fault lowside that resulted in the bike getting totaled. The agent actually gave me a choice of getting it fixed vs. getting paid out for it. Got a call in the afternoon asking what I preferred to do. Got the check in hand the next day.

I'd say a great deal has to do with the agent you get. How they read you and whether they feel you're trying to cheat the policy or company. I'm betting the agents can decide to either to help you out or just abide by the letter of the law as to how much or how little you get paid. I'm also betting that at least some of it has to do with how good you are about paying for your policy. The last several years I've always paid in full for either six months or a year if I can swing it so that there is no question that I'm covered and paid up.

Just my :2cents. YMMV.

I also had a cancellation fee from Progressive. I refused to pay it. Eventually they gave up. I actually went to Geico and in about 15 minutes I saved about....$500 for the year. Not too bad.

Wow, 4 pages :) . In larger scheme of things it is $30 bucks so not worth my time to raise my BP but lesson learned.
Someone here mentioned about Eric, a Farmers insurance agent. Can someone please post his contact info.

<rant>
Cancellation charge for cancelling a policy! Was really surprised to hear when they hit me with this charge. Man, this company must really suck to charge customers for leaving them, glad I didn't have to find out hard way by filing a claim or something!

Lesson learned never ever again Progressive :thumbdown
</end rant>

On the other hand thanks to Lawrence at Addiction for mounting new tires even though I was half hour late.

Yes, they do have a cancellation charge! I was surprised about it too, but fortunately they waived it for me since the reason I cancelled was because they messed up on my bike model and quoted me an incorrect premium amount.

Both Progressive and Geico (Government Employees Insurance COmpany) should be avoided at all costs.

Progressive is heavily investing in 'pay by the mile' insurance, where you plug a tracking device into your car so they can determine where/when you drive, and charge you accordingly. Of course, they also have access to ALL of the info in your car's "black box", including your speed at any given moment. How much of a stretch is it to imagine them saying 'sorry, no coverage- you were speeding'? Motos don't have black boxes yet, but they're coming soon.

Geico is behind every 'anti-driver' piece of legislation out there, as well as demanding red-light cameras, speed cameras, lower speed limits, etc. They contribute heavily to lobbyists trying to take more of your tax dollars for less freedom.

For the good of us all, please don't support either of these companies. Ever.

Jeff- I where should I go for insurance then?

Geico has been the cheapest by far.

Also, Geico is owned by Warren Buffett. they USED to only insure govt employees. thats how they got their name.

The average driver NEEDS to be reeled in. You see the threads lately? Its not even fun driving or riding cause the roads are clogged with dipshits. Drove my weakass miata up 1 to stinson beach and holy peanut butter cookies batman people can't negotiate curves. Don't get me started with the asshattery on 101/580 IN A STRAIGHT LINE. Fawk i'm ready to give up driving/riding for fun (city slabs or twisties) cause even off hours it isn't fun anymore.

Its gonna suck for us 'awesome' drivers but whatever. Trackdays will be king for us who can master vehicular use because in ten years we will be ferried around in electric autonomous vehicles. Think how far technology has come since 2003. This WILL be a reality in 2023.

Just an interesting tidbit of information.
Progressive's Chairman of the Board, Peter B. Lewis is the single greatest contributor to the legalization of marijuana, co-founder of MoveOn.org, contributes significantly to MDNA and other psychedelic drug testing for medicinal purposes, the Democratic Party, American Civil Liberties Union, and the list goes on.

When I worked for Progressive, customer satisfaction was paramont. Rating schedules and policies vary from carrier to carrier that's why it's always a good idea to shop and understand what exactly you're getting with your insurance purchase.

Again, both companies came through with flying colors on claims for me. Great service from both. Progressive's sport bike rates in CA aren't competitive anymore, so I've been with GEICO for a while for my motos. GEICO's insured my cars for decades and they've been great.

He means avoid because of their political associations not their business practices. Especially if you are some sort of soverign citizen in training or something because the extracurricular actions of geico and profressive listed were pretty much not a big deal.

All I got out of that was....he supports marijuana...:twofinger

Had to bump this. My AAA rep told me they will no longer write moto insurance thru American Modern Ins and will now use Progressive only.

Crap.

I was informed the same thing yesterday. I asked if I had to switch and they said no, but that I would get a better rate/discount if I did :dunno

I have been pleased with my Progressive coverage. Used for no-fault and at-fault incidents, and have absolutely nothing to complain about.

State Farm for me
Spot on for all my claims, even when getting costs to repair a Tuono Factory with CF and stuff.
