Rev bombs?

Just wanted to see what's the opinion on BARF on rev bombing?

Is it effective? When should the bomb be dropped? What if I have a stock exhaust? Does it really make sense to get an loud aftermarket just so cars can hear you? Do people do it so cars would make space when they split?

Last week, on my commute through local roads in stop-go traffic I could hear an R1 approaching from far far away. The rider rev'd the crap out of the bike, bouncing off the limiter a couple of times, all way splitting down the street while going ~5-10mph. I personally thought it was super annoying.

I am curious what's the accepted etiquette around here.
 
It makes you look like a giant douche, and is dangerous to the effect that you're pulling in the clutch and taking power away from the driving wheel.

As others have pointed out, Budman, Serg, and others have put forth a TON of time and effort toward motorcyclists' rights. Doing dumb shit like "rev bombs," flipping off motorists on the roadway, etc detracts from their hard work and reinforces the public's negative image of motorcyclists.

In other words, please don't do it.

Most people agree with you--super annoying. I would NOT make room for a rev-bombing splitter. Fuck 'em. They need to grow the fuck up.
 
Lane sharing is a privilege that we've enjoyed in this state.

That can all be taken away if it ever makes it to the ballot and put before voters. We as riders need to not piss off multitudes of drivers and rev bombing does exactly that.

It's a selfish, stupid action and probably doesn't make them as much safer as their tiny little brains may make them think.

If you know anybody that does it, tell them to knock that shit off.
 
speaking of etiquette

you don't lane split on the shoulder/right turn only lane or left turn only lane then cut back in at the intersection.
 
If I'm driving, I'll normally give riders plenty of space.

If I heard one rev bombing far enough back that I could safely block the split, I'd consider doing so.
 
Douche canoes do it. Don't be one of them.

You have a horn if you're in danger, if not then accept shit is the way it is.
 
Every bike I've seen rev bombing was ridden by what I assume was a total douche. Impatient, acting angry and in a big damn hurry. I , for one, use my high beams in daylight only to split. And just slow your split delta.

If you decide this is for you make sure you're wearing your Icon Vest with only a short sleeve t-shirt underneath.
 
Do you guys not consider loud cruisers blipping the throttle to be a rev bomb? Because I see/hear that all the time and mostly those instances are just people trying to draw attention and having nothing to do with filtering or maneuvering in any way. I find that behavior annoying as hell and love that South Park made fun of the practice perfectly.

If your bike can't idle at a red light without having to blip the throttle incessantly, get your POS off the road. If it can idle then let it idle and don't be an ass.
 
I realize this is a dog-pile thread, but frankly a bit of polite throttle blipping doesn't bother me, I don't do it, but if I'm in a cage I don't mind it either. I've had it done to me when faster splitters catch up to me too, and in all but one over-the-top rude case, it didn't bother me there either.

But like any practice it can be abused to the point of rude and annoying.
