RIP Marco Simoncelli

+1:thumbup Thanks for passing along the videos. I'm a little disappointed that I did not see more Moto GP riders at the service. Where was Stoner, Pedrosa and Spies. CE is hurt so I understand.

I have a whole new respect for Lorenzo, his big hug with Marco's father was really touching.

Ciao Marco #58

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport 2010 MotoGP champion Lorenzo signed the book of remembrance with the words "I'll always remember you. Forgive me for having argued with you."
Rossi signed simply "I miss you" while lifelong rival Dovizioso wrote "You were so strong and always pushed me to go faster."

What Lorenzo wrote in Sic's book of remembrance is very touching :(

Hey SuperMike nice talking with you yesterday at your shop and thanks for the decals, they will be going on as soon as I get my bike clean enough that they will stick to it. I will definitely steer any work your way that I can.

People don't speak ill of the deceased, not because we want to posthumously promote them to sainthood, but instead because we want to remember the good of the person so their memory is associated with the things we will pass to future generations. everyone's choices are half chance. wasn't it Albert einstein who said "everyone is a genius. but if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree it will go its entire existence thinking its stupid"?

I don't see Karlitos as speaking ill of the dead, I see him pointing out the painful and obvious truth about a racer we all loved and will miss. His passing can teach us many useful lessons, on how to live and ride, and how not to live and ride.

I don't think Karlitos deserves to be disrespected for voicing his opinion, but I also don't think he should be doing it this time, or that perhaps it could have been delivered in a more agreeable way. If he would have delivered it with a "why didn't he learn" voice of regret, grief and sadness, I think it would have been better. He does voice regret for Sic's passing, but not enough.

I fixed the Einstein quote btw.

Thanks guys for sharing the videos. It actually gives me some comfort seeing how much his death is effecting everyone else. Maybe it's because I watched it live, maybe it's because we are the same age and share the same passion, maybe it's because he left us far too early? But marcos death has completely gutted me. I've never felt this way about someone I have never met. I have followed marco since he was crushing the 125's. i will never forget his spirt both on and off the track. Chiao Marco!

Italy has such an amazing culture... so much passion and respect shown by those who attended, the media and Marco's family is the epitome of class.

RIP SIC

this. there will be a time and a place to pragmatically discuss the accident, once further removed from it. after valencia

Yeah no kidding. The guy sees it as big a loss as anyone else and instead of joining the competition to make the dorkiest comment he actually mentions something that may have kept Marco alive.
It was the attitude and riding style that everyone loved about Marco and it was that same attitude and riding style that may have cost him his life.
Thats all Karlitos was pointing out.

I agree with this, and I think many fans felt this same way although for many of us this thought might still be too painful. Knowing what we all know now I'm sure marco would have let go of the bike, but he couldn't, he had to try and save it, he was a racer through and through. I think that same attitude is one of the things that made him so popular. I was always nervous watching marco, so many crashes with no injuries, I knew it was only a matter of time until his big one. I just never thought it would end his life...

I think its pretty dammned cool that jorge, dovi, and hiroshi all made the trip to the funeral. just goes to show you, bitter rivals on track, but respect off of it...

Kenny tried "the look" back in the 90's (not photoshoped), didn't work for him... Only someone like Simoncelli could pull-off a cool look like that !
Hell of a racer, big balls.. So sad. RIP Marco
