Oh man.. heart is broken again today.
I am sad to share that Ed Maloney / AKA Sweeping Winger has passed away.
I have been trying to contact him for a while and feared something happened and Mean Dad did me a solid by driving by to check on him and found out from the neighbors Ed has moved on. Thanks MD.
Ed was a kind man.. the only barfer that made it to every BARF rally we have had. He had a custom barf license plate frame for his car. The only one in existence. At the Rydther Rally in '21 I gave him a barfie for being such a dedicated Rallyman.
He had given up his Honda Goldwing a couple years ago but became our sweep in his Mercedes Coup. in fact he gave me a ride to The Bank bar in Taft and also ferried me up to the Red Dog Saloon at the Rydther Virginia City Rally. Two OG's that shared a little time during his last two rallies.
I first met Ed in '08 at our first Rally and we rode some together. On 120 (the east side of 395) we had a unique experience. He was on his big red Goldwing and we were doing 100mph over the big whoops when a helicopter raised up out of the canyon paralleling us. Shocked us both!
That night we laughed about that as we both thought it was a CHP bird at first, but it was not. He was a member of the Goldwing club too, a Navy Vet (Seabee)
and a family man. Ed was always quiet and polite, but would share a whisky here and there.
Going to miss you Ed. Condolences to the members here that knew him and to his family
So.. I am renaming the RideMoar Rally to the Sweeping Winger Rally.
Godspeed my friend. Godspeed.
