RIP SWEEPING WINGER - ED

Rodr, I must not of taken pictures on this ride. Did not find any of this ride when I was looking for pictures of Ed. Tioga Pass is still one of my favorite rides. Some really good people on this ride.

God's speed Ed.

:rose Rest in Peace, Ed Maloney :rose

Sweeping Winger was a model for us. Caring for stragglers off the back, or zooming off to Oregon and back from Weaverville. He could ride fast and long, or ride a relaxed pace.

He got along with everyone, and the feeling was mutual. He supported his wife and friends unconditionally. He loved motorcycles, BARF people, and the BARF community. He will be missed!

Very nicely said Brian.

I tracked down the contact info for the GoldWing Club I think he was a member of (Pittsburg, CA) and left a VM for the local leader about Ed. Not sure they knew, but no doubt he had the same impact there as he did here so the right thing to do.

Thanks, Bud. :thumbup

Got through to them. They did not know Ed passed. Sent them a link to this thread. A little more respects for our friend. Condolences to all those folks for their loss. :rose

Very sad news.

Ed was a great guy. I remember on our Weaverville rides and with Wanderlust
rides. Very sad to hear of his passing.

Condolences to those who are missing Ed. It's very fitting to have a rally named in his honor, nice tribute. :rose

I have been just punched in the gut. The first time I really met Ed was sitting on the side of the road after witnessing Bap(?) asphalt luge Flying Hun's green Versus. I remember thinking, wow, this guy is really cool.

Later I would get to sit with Ed on numerous rallies. We had several conversations about his wife who was suffering and in decline from Alzheimers. I really believe our rallies and the barf community became Ed's family.

Very sad and grateful to Meandad for tracking him down. Do we have any links to a memorial service or has that passed?

Very sorry to see this, RIP Ed

I think I talked to Ed maybe three times, and only at the Weaverville rallies. What a mellow guy, and a bit of a lead foot in that Caddy!

Just saw this thread. 2023 is NOT off to a good start. I consider myself supremely fortunate to have known Ed. He will be missed at future rallies, to be sure. :/

WTF. Ed and Paul were two of my favorites. I met Ed while on the second or third BARF Hawthorne. We somehow got way ahead of the groups and blasted up Ebettes alone. Ed was also one of the few 6:30am breakfast at the El Cap diner. You will be missed :rose

Losing another hero of mine

Ed was a true gentleman. He rode for the love of it with nothing to prove and he seemed to enjoy every mile.
Those early rallies were awesome. Paul, Ed and Ray must be on one now, I imagine, teaching Rory the street. :ride:ride:ride:ride
Thanks Ed for always having our backs.
Ride on!:ros
And thank you Kevin for driving up to check on him. You are an amazing soul.
