OK, if I woke up one morning and said, "I'm gonna go bin it and if I hold up traffic for hours, fuck 'em" and then proceeded to ride 9, bin it, and hold up traffic for hours, then you could equate it with a group of Ruff Ryders waking up and going, "I'm gonna go stuntin' and if I hold up traffic for hours, fuck 'em!"
But no, most mornings I wake up and go, "Ok, I'm going to have a safe, sane ride. I'm going to ride my pace, watch for stuff on the road, watch for motorists in need, watch for cops, and be back safely before lunch." Nowhere does my intent to go riding put countless hundreds of people in a difficult situation. Nowhere does my intent endanger someone's life.
And if my choice to go riding DOES put someone in a difficult situation, it was innocent and not out of my own selfishness. It's the same as if I bought the last loaf of bread at 7pm, and everyone who came into the store after 7pm couldn't get any bread.
Well said. I'll have to buy you/hand you a happy beverage at the OFG party.
Moike, I think the thing that people are getting all fucking hung up about is that when it comes down to it, there's a couple of bad apples in every group. I think that most people share the attitude of Eisernkreuz. They want to go out, have a little fun, and come home alive. I know i certainly enjoy riding on a daily basis to stay in practice for the track, because it's fucking impossible to sanely replicate track speeds on the street. I'm friends with some of the Kamakazi crew, and they're cool guys and all, but i don't ride with them simply because i don't condone what they do. I'll drag a knee on the street when i feel it's safe, i'll exceed the speed limit while taking care to stay within my limits. If something happens (deer, car in my lane, blah blah blah), then i'm typically riding in such a way that i can get the fuck out of their way.
So what all this is about is:
There's some bad apples in every group. On the list of "mortal motorcycling sins" when someone bins it on teh n9nes, chances are they're not coming back anytime soon. These RR people go out and pull this shit...whenever? Who knows how many accidents/fender benders were caused by them stopping for no fucking reason on the middle of the freeway? Who knows how much time they added to hundreds, if not thousands of people's commutes on that day? Last time i checked, someone binning it on skyline (and yes, i directed traffic at an accident up there recently) delayed the day of maybe 100 people? We had perhaps 30 people from each direction over the course of the 30 minutes between when i got on teh scene (one of the first) and when the paramedics got there and for some reason the police closed the road. I had to go around, big deal. Furthermore, there's a huge difference between an accident and intentionally going out there to hold up traffic. Even the KK still go out there trying to make it home at the end of the day.
When it comes down to it, i love motorcycles. I love engines, i love sidecars, i love watching someone with skill ride a motorcycle, no matter how you do it, stunter, trials rider, apex strafer, endo god, whatever. But i also appreciate it when you don't act like an asshat while you're doing it. I do my best to be respectful to the other people i SHARE the road with, and i don't think it'd hurt the image of the stunters, apex strafers, and other riders to do the same.
