Salt water reef tanks.

Naw. This is what I get for not quarantining a new fish. Now I have to quarantine ALL my fish.:facepalm

where did you get the new fish that brought in the ick? I've got some ick treatment stuff at my place if you need some I can give it to you wednesday.

So I have a 40 gallon acrylic that I used to run a SW set-up in. . .but I have an itch for a 29g Oceanic Bio Cube. Would I be crazy to go with the cube or should I just buy a new T5 lighting system and resurrect the 40 (it basically has the equipment, just need to clean it up)?

Hey,

Just chiming in...I've got a 29gal nanotank. I love it. I've had it for 2 years now. Here's a few pics...

FYI, My dad had a 55gal, and a 100 gal, both of which were beautiful. He has had so many problems and outbreaks with colerpa (sp?) amongst other things. He has always been jealous of how good my corals grow and propagate, and how well my purple growth and my constant level of nitrates and the such...this thing is awesome and nearly trouble free and easy to clean. My only two problems which haven't really been problems are a starfish outbreak(you can see a few in the pics) and a feather duster type worm that went crazy, but from what I've read they are harmless.

Another good reef site is reefmonkey.com

My newest addition is the green clown goby(some call it gum drop goby), he hops right onto your hand when feeding or cleaning, he's just awesome.

I don't see the point in buying a new tank unless you like the shape of it, it's dirt cheap, you want to set up two tanks or your old one is scratched up or cracked. Just get some new lights if you need them and go nuts.

Thanks for the replies. You're tank is looking nice letsride! Your situation seems to be what I've read and heard from owners of newer cubes. *That* part of the equation (not as much equipment, easy to clean, etc.) sure does appeal to me.

I think a part of it is I want a glass tank. My existing 40 is kind of beat up. I may just go with a 40g glass tank and new lights. The area where the tank would go is ideal for a 40 (it's an area slightly recessed between two pillars).

If I were to get a cube style tank it would have to be a Sera. Those crazy Germans think of everything!!

Check craigslist for tanks, ALWAYS somebody out there looking to get rid of a decent tank .... and usually for pennies on the dollar.

gp125racer

+1 agreed...some folks were even letting it go for free

My green chromis turned carpet surferer and killed itself. It was a good 3 incher and ate like a pig.:thumbdown

I dunno man. I didn't even think chromis would carpet surf. Are lobsters cool or do they just sit around and look for scraps to eat?

I'm going to get me some of the sexiest shrimp ever and some more cleaner shrimp. Freaking love cleaner shrimp.

Trying my luck with clownfish again. Got myself a nice sized percula clown that's been alive and well for 3 days. Here's hoping I get at least 3 years out of her.

^good luck man...

Thanks. I've had horrible luck with clownfish these past few months which is wierd because they're one of the easiest fish to raise and I have things in my tank that are doing fine and are a lot harder to take care of.

ahaha oh man..sounds like a PITA

The fish I got from that cheap place in sf are all doing fine. One of the damsels died. Aside from that the black and white clown I got is fat and happy. The blue hippo tang I got has gotten a good amount bigger. Its been just over a month since I got them.
