I enjoy SF for about 2 or 3 days at a time then I gotta get out.

Used to spend a fair amount of time there when I lived in Sacramento. Visiting friends, night clubs, concerts, etc. I'm still sad Ruby Skye closed. Loved that place. Most of the time just took the bus instead of driving. Save on gas, save on bridge toll, save on high parking prices, save time trying to find a spot to park if you're in a free area.

Majority of friends that live there either still live in homes their family owned for decades or have 5 roommates. Or very high paying jobs...

re: limos' in SF, that's far from the third or fourth time a limo has been stuck in SF in the past decades.

equal pay among all genders.
Of course magic for it helps us get through the difficult times.

People drove down those steps at Safeway so frequently they finally installed bright yellow bollards to prevent it.

Yeah ! A freaking Walgreens closed, and a trendy brunch place Eats with a Yelp waitlist opened(was yummy) . Also there’s a Richmond Republic draft house.. they’dare serve great beers.

Schubert’s bakery.. unchanged since 1912 so yeah. Perhaps it’s the same.

:laughing

Was that on the corner of Tower Records ? Or two blocks south

LOL, I live a block from Clement where all the good stuff is..

Eats has been there for a long time, and is currently owned by the extremely overrated Burma Super Star and the Yummy B-Star folks. Eats is actually really fucking good, but I won't wait in line for it.

The Richmond Draft house is ok, but they now have competition in the old Front Room Pizza location with Lost Marbles BrewPub..

The best dim sum for me is next to the former best pork bun, and pot sticker joint the Clement Restaurant - they burned down a few years ago and were trying to reopen, but the Xiao Long Bao place is fucking good, and you can still get the same baked pork buns on the other side of the defunct Clement Restaurant from the steam table place.

I still feel lucky to be in the Inner Richmond for food, but pissed that Walgreens closed, fucking tragic..

:thumbup

I think of Tower Records as being at Columbus and Bay ... Clown Alley was Columbus and Jackson, so the other end of Columbus. think it was 24 hours back when I lived in North Beach in the early '90s. yum at 2am. :clown

Pretty sure I thought the pic was Clown Alley on Lombard, but I dunno... Both were on my regular rotation when I was a younger man.

How are decent working people supposed to jump DRZs or rally cars across those intersections with all the limousines clogging up the roads?

I'll defer to you, was only ever aware of the Clown Alley in my old neighborhood. was there one at Lombard and Columbus? so that would've been two blocks from Tower. props to Mr AbsolutEnduser! :gsxrgrl

I do remember a big fiberglass clown head at Jackson, which is the pic I was looking for, but who knows now if there ever was one.

The Lombard St Clown Alley was at the intersection of Divisadero. Across the opposite corner from the 24 hour Walgreens. It's a chicken wing restaurant now.

Of course, what we like is subject to personal opinion. I used to go to Golden Deer, next to 7Eleven. Both are gone now.

On Monday, I had a meal at Taiwan Restaurant on Clement. Nothing glamorous here. Nothing is gourmet or dressed up. People from Taiwan, serving food from Taiwan. It's good. It's a change from the 6 or 8 places that serve Panda Express style food from steam tables. I also like Lime Tree on Clement.

SF born and raised in the Western Addition, four blocks from Haight-Ashbury and right across the street from the Panhandle.

I barely recognize SF now and hardly ever go into the City anymore.

Adam Five Five knows.. Must be old like me.

I wish I had tried Golden Deer... Never gave it a look.

Taiwan Restaurant has killer Dry Braised Green Beans. Nice folks, but to me that is a new restaurant on Clement LoL.. It's been there for a long ass time though.

Anyone know the Corned Beef and Cabbage at Mariposa Cafeteria in the dog patch? Miss that shit..

My heart broke when Toy Boat sold to Janes Bakery.. Good cookies, but Jesse at Toy Boat trained those kids to make killer sandwiches. I miss that.

House of Bagels... Almost no change.. On my way to elementary school I used to steal hot bagels from the racks that they would push onto the sidewalk.

What about the Butterfly Man at Pier 39?

Map8 you can still jump the intersections on Dolores Street.. Or jump off the top of 26th ave between Clement and California, but it's a good idea to have a spotter.. We hit a car backing out of a driveway once in my friends truck.. He said he watched the speedo go to zero while we were in mid are when he hit the brakes..

Lands end has some amazing views and a great walk...

I miss tailgating at Candle Stick point park before 49ers games at the stick. It's fucking apocalyptical down there now.

No Tommy's Joint mentions? Still almost exactly the same as my youth. That beef brisket and BBQ sauce.. I tell my then Vegetarian GF that the carrot cake was delicious.. She still doesn't buy it and won't go with me.

Drinking under age at the Front Room..

I had a sick AF ride home today through West Portal dodging all the cars and Muni Trains..

As a youth, the older generation always told me to save some money. Invest it. Put it away for your future. Of course, I didn't listen. I blew every penny. Cars. Bikes. Toys. Clothes. Shoes. Electronics. Travel. Hunting. Fishing. Camping. Gambling. More than anything; food & drink. I bought rounds of drinks. I picked up the tab at dinner. I left generous tips.

Maybe my money wasn't wasted. I invested my hard earned dollars into life experiences. Mostly prurient. I bought memories. To this day, I still have memories of Sloat Boulevard, between 46th & 47th Avenues. Leon's BBQ. The cheap motel. John's Ocean Beach Cafe.

Drinking under age at the Front Room..

Once upon a time, there were unwritten rules. Bars did not check ID. Kids drank in bars. Kids went to nightclubs. At 2 AM, they closed the door and turned off the lights in front - and people drank past 2 AM. The cops never bothered the place of business, if there was no trouble. And anyone drinking underage or drinking past 2, kept their cool. Especially if you were a kid, drinking underage, past 2 AM. We knew better than to start a fight in a bar. We knew the owner who let us hang out there. If anything happened, we would lose our hangout.

I remember hanging out at Front Room. Clement St and Geary Boulevard had quite an active night life scene. For awhile, it was the neighborhood to go bar hopping, because you could walk. There was everything from a younger crowd, to a sports bar, to the "old man" bars, to places where you knew you could get coke. Ireland 32, Fizzee's, Churchill's, The Caspian - All the way down to the west end of Geary & Clement Trad'r Sam, Tommy's Mexican Restaurant.

It seems crazy now. Drinking from Arguello, all the way down 20 some odd blocks. Sometimes we walked and stumbled. Sometimes we drove drunk. Sometimes we rode motorcycles drunk. Sometimes we took the bus.

Does anyone remember drinking at 952 Clement?
