Let talk about a channel island trip. Put a few divers together. Three days boat diving, hunting. Live aboard.

I've done two different "truth"boats great crew! 420 friendly for those who care but the captain wasn't too happy. Decent food. Decent sleeping arrangements. Possible to do 7 dives each day! Dive when you want, as many times as you want. Easy ingress/egress from the boat. Hot showers.

Fair prices for what you get IMHO. We do have to drive to Santa Barbara to get on the boat but NBD

I dove with them many years ago, good group, left on time, we had some great dive spots. Definatly reccomend!

My husband Ben use to go diving in the channel islands on a boat called the spectre. His friend does the trips. We have been wanting to go since I got certified.

Sounds like you just volunteered Ben to organize our dive!

:laughing Depends on when you wanna go. We are going to be dealing with paying off the wedding for a bit. :p

So no gear purchasing for you ahead?

Not yet. Although I have a KILLER deal for oceanic stuff. But I cant justify spending 800$ on gear while we have a wedding debt to pay off. Thinking I will get it as a birthday gift to myself. If we go diving I will probably rent.

Ok, just checking because I'm ordering a few things from there this week.

Today I dove the big island with a different company than before. Big island divers. Good friendly crew but a very structured dive program. Nice boat. Good wet/dry organization? i ended up in the rear of the procession going at my own speed, poking into little holes and shining my light into dark spaces. Was going slow enough, the fish actually started hanging out with me. I probably could have grabbed a few of em. Bring a flashlight on every dive. You'll see so much more!

This was my first time diving since being sick and while I was a little rusty things came back to me pretty quickly. I'm bummed about my air consumption though. I used to be one of the last divers up and this time I was the first :(. I'm afraid my meds just make me less efficient than I ever was. I was still under for 50 minutes at 50ish feet but I used to be able to stay for 70 or so at that depth. Maybe I'll just get a bigger tank lol.

1/2 the boat was diving nitrox btw!

Awesome.

Out of curiosity, what's your normal resting heart-rate?

My Course Director in Australia had me wear a heart-monitor when I dive to monitor my heart-rate. It really helped me calm my nerves when I had students/divers who required a lot of my attention. Now whenever I do fun-dives, people tend to tell me I just look zoned out and extremely relaxed. I don't mind as long as I get my bottom time <3

My pre-op resting heart rate was 44-48. Now I'm somewhere around 70 :(. Drugs:thumbdown

Like I posted, at least I can still dive and have fun! I just get less bottom time:sadpanda

I may not be able to Shepard several divers on a drift dive bit I can still help less experienced divers

You rock! Well I say let's try to set up this Channel Islands dive when you get back. If we build it, BARF will come!

Oh hell yes!

Any Water Sports had a sale for 40% off today. I bought a BARE XCD2 Drysuit, Undergarments, and gloves for under $1150 out the door! Who's ready for some Point Lobos?

Excellent! You're ready to bust your cold water cherry:thumbup. I understand dry suits come with a whole new set of buoyancy issues. You'll have to let me know how you adapt.

Noobie question here: Working on getting certified and taking my pool classes here in the bay area. I'm thinking of doing my open water dive in Cancun since I'll be on vacation there late November. If I do my open water dive in a place like Cancun with warm water, does that mean I'm not certified to dive in places with cold water around the bay area? I checked PADI website but couldn't find anything that stated a difference between warm water/cold water certification...
