Thanks again, all these info really help me :thumbup
Man, I am going diving :party

I can't remember if I've dove Pt. Lobos. Is that near butterfly cathedral???

When I had a boat I did some dives about a mile or so off of the launch ramp, looking for these train cars in about 70' of water. We couldn't find them but we did find some wheels from the carriage. The water was dark and like pea soup and the current was very strong in parts. After that dive I went out and bought a nice dive reel. ;)

It's around the corner from it, yes. It's a really fun dive! Lots of critters and occasional Mola Mola.

I saw a mola mola once right there at Breakwater. A big sea lion came right up to my face and stared me in the eye on that same dive. Hard to believe one of my most memorable dives was that one. It was just supposed to be an ordinary dive to try out some new gear more than anything else. It probably didn't hurt that it was a weekday morning and we were practically the only ones there.

I think we should schedule some night dives at breakwater soon. I just need a proper torch.

The last time I did a night time at breakwater was when my drysuit sprung a leak. :laughing Was a short dive but I saw a small octopus in the rocks of the jetty. You can also get pretty close to the rock fish at night. I think they're sleeping. I swear to god you can get close enough to poke them before they "wake up" and swim away. Not a tall fish tale.

I'm always down to dive. So do your refresher and let's GO! Actually.. I'm certified to do your refresher :p

Will do. I was more than 3/4 finished with my rescue diver cert through Wallins but it's been so long now I have to retake it.

Flew to the Philippines at the beginning of the month to visit my dad and some college buddies. I managed to squeeze in 2 dives. Got to record the first dive with my GoPro but messed up recording the second dive.

The head strap probably wasn't the best idea to use for that dive. I didn't realize that it was aimed way too high. In any case, here's some of the video that I found acceptable (not awesome, just acceptable). :teeth

Pretty Jackfish! Was the coral bleached?

Now that you're home - come dive with us!

There were some signs of bleaching. I remember hearing one year where they had seen some bleaching. I don't quite remember when this was.

As for diving with you guys, I would love to be able to dive, but all my gear is back in the Philippines. When I moved to the US, I sold my BCD and regulator, then left everything else there.

Are you certified to teach drysuit diving? If I'm diving here, I don't think I'd do it in a wet suit. I'm a spoiled tropical water scuba diver... :rofl the water there was a nice 80F too!

Don't take the drysuit diving course, it's just a money hack. Walk into Any Water Sports (off Saratoga Ave) with me and pick up a drysuit (They have a special for BARE Drysuits right now). They'll give you a good orientation and pool exercises for free.

Hmm... sweet! :thumbup

I gotta start saving to buy a set of gear for here then... :teeth I'd love to meet up with you one of these days to shoot the shit and talk about this some more... beer's on me!

No worries.

What build are you? I have a Medium Aqualung Balance BCD that I'm willing to part with for wayyy cheap to a BARFER. (Can fit up to 5'10 at 170lbs).

Diving with a wetsuit isn't so bad. If your drysuit doesn't fit right it can be very uncomfortable and if you spring a leak you don't have long before you can get hypothermic.

Where in the Philippines did you dive? The corals seemed a little silty and the visibility didn't seem as good as it usually is, although the visibility in Coron kind of sucked (~50 feet) when I dove there. Boracay was well over 100' vis.

FINALLY going on my first real dive trip since getting certified.

Leaving the Harbor Friday night. Going out to the outer channel Islands while we sleep. Waking up Saturday morning to do 2 or 3 dives. We also get a chance to do a night dive Saturday night since we are staying over night diving again Sunday and then coming back in Sunday afternoon. Full weekend of diving!

:banana :banana Cant wait for April! :party

That sounds awesome.

1. Take 1 pill of dramamine or bodine the morning before you get on the boat. Then take one more right before you get on the boat.

2. You're going to be amped and nervous going in on your first dive. Try practicing long deep breaths while putting on your gear. That'll lower your heart rate and help you out on air consumption. (I do this every dive, because I'm usually stoked to get in the water and suck down more air in the first 5 mins of diving than I do in the next 15 mins).

3. Take pics ;)

I can fit in a medium... :teeth I was just looking at dry suits and damn, I didn't even realize how spendy those things are! :laughing gonna take a little bit longer that I thought it would take to save up...

Viz was about 60-80'. There's a lot of silt if you aren't careful at that dive site. I believe that dive site was call "Twin Rocks" just off of Arthur's Place in Anilao, Batangas.

There are a few dive sites that I know of that are much better than that, but we didn't have the time to go an hour out to reach them.. :(

Nice!! You're gonna love it!

How thick are your wet suits? One of the reasons I don't dive here in the US is the fact that a 3mm wet suit already annoys me... 5mm or 7mm would definitely be nuts for me... :)

We got 2 gopros one for me one for Ben. Should be AWESOME. Not sure about sea sickness but will definitely take something the night before and right before.

When I went diving in Monterey I had the overall looking wet suit that was sleeve less AND the long sleeve/shorts to go on top. They were both 7mm so my core was actually at 14. I will probably be wearing a 7mm wetsuit Im guessing. Im renting from the boat so I dont know what the options are.

Wasnt really all that annoying but Im sure it would feel awesome to be a bit more "free"

PM me an offer for the BCD. Drysuits can be up to $3k for a DUI, but you can get a decent BARE suit (like I have) for $1500 easily. I'm very happy with my suit.

Btw, my friends dive in their 7mm all the time. They seem fine. I on the other hand hate the cold, so I'm not going in w/out my drysuit.

Sweet :teeth

Aww what you were wearing wasn't a proper wetsuit though. A full wetsuit only lets a film of water enter the suit and your body heat warms it. With the suits they have you renting, you get flushes the entire time which makes it cold as frak.
