Shadow banning

I guess you've missed the part where I explained, numerous times, that shadow banning is a tool you use against people that have already been banned multiple times.

I know that you said that and am glad you and your organization follows that procedure.

As far as I know there is no standard Moderator-TOS across all online organizations.

As such, when it becomes apparent that a platform is shadow banning without prior action, I feel it important to publicize that shady practice.

I'm sure you agree and am sorry for calling your post fascist but with no other context...felt a little 'big brother coming down on me' ya dig? :laughing

I wasn't bothered by it, because I gave it all of the consideration and gravitas that it was owed - which to say, none.

LOL I PsyOps banned you. :laughing

I wonder if someone could make a bot that randomly posts things about Sailor Moon on motorcycle forum threads?

Actually, I do think Smash, Clutchslip and others are raising the issue of systemic abuse of this ability, while you and I are talking about individual rights to control information in private venues. The waters got a little muddied by the misuse of the term "Free Speech" but I don't think that their concerns are completely unfounded. :)

Perhaps BARF needs a captcha verification every time one posts?
"I am not a robot" ???

It is also a tool to use against people that you disagree with. It’s been proven and that is what this tread is about. What about alll those people that have a different view point then the person reviewing? Why should their viewpoint not be public? It seems like a slick little way to suppress individuals from pointing out possible problems. Basically a dictatorship platform.

This entire forum is actually a shadow-banning of all of you. There's, like, three, real humans posting right now, and everything else is an algorithm of responses. The "real" BARF is a totally cool place that you don't get to play in. :devil :later

Allegedly yes, and if that pans out to be true, then that's dreadful.

But since it seemed that so many people in this thread (inclusive of yourself) had never herd of shadow bans before, I took an opportunity to help explain it's typical utility and its value in the moderation of online communities.

If you banned the sale of ANFO because it can be used to make bombs, we'd be fucked.

It's true.
If anyone knows Entoptic, he's basically whining and whining "OMG dictaetorsheep" ALL THE TIME, while this very forum has shadow-banned ALL CAR DRIVERS!!! (that do not ride a motorcycle)

What about the poor car drivers that have a different viewpoint?!?!

If that's not a hipo-crates I don't know what is!!!! :mad:mad:mad:afm199

Oh Abby you never cease to amaze.

Absolutely agree. I just think users should know how sever punishments can be up front. Many reasonable people never would think something like a shadow ban is even a thing. They should be informed I think.

These conversations are intriguing, given the ones the mods have had when dealing with like problems. I remember back in the day when we could ban before a majority vote was needed...that led to some problems. The system now with a moderator vote is quite effective and, IMO, fair. I just have low faith in the tier system.

After the asshole sneaks back in a few times wearing a disguise, he gets the invisible muzzle.
Don't like being muzzled? Stop sneaking in and saying shitty things.

Truth...a much easier way is when members know who a dupe is that's been banned for solid reasoning, to message a moderator so the moderators can deal with it. But, none ever do...even though they know who the dupes are.

Most of the cases we see are individual employees taking action and then an apology from the leadership without any sort of actual explanation. I don't believe it's systemic within the corporate culture, but is in the weak, muted response from these companies. IOW, I don't think it's a massive problem...yet.

It's the women's forum, isn't it? :(

Shadow bans are put into the women't forum, but they can't access it without proper permissions.

If it was, they'd just delete Left leaning posts that they didn't like. :twofinger

This idiot dialog of the 'Intolerant Left' is just propaganda hatched out of a conservative think tank along with all of the others, which has been repeated enough times that it becomes 'true' in the minds of many on the Right. :thumbdown
I imagine it would happen if there were mainstream social media outlets led by the right

If it's only used then, it's reasonable.

Not all moderators are reasonable.

What is anfo used for other than bombs?
